How to deal with nihilistic feelings?

So, you've mastered the Red Pill Theory, you banged a lot of women, seen plenty of the world, had some success in life, have a good feel for how people and the world work, have some money, etc.

You realize most people just really want to use you, nearly no one gives a damn about truth or morality unless it serves them, most people can only think in the short term and live in the moment.

Women just want to use your for dick/money/status, men just want to use you for some personal advantage, some maybe for your dick too.

It reminds me of Tolstoy's Confessions. There's 4 types of people: 1) they are oblivious to the meaninglessness of all, 2) they are "woke" but they indulge in hedonism, 3) they are "woke" but they either off themselves or go the Dostoyevsky Underground Man way or 4) they tag along because they don't know what else to do

How do you deal with this kind of feelings? Is there anything that's worth it?

Go deeper. If you truly feel you’re succumbing to nihilism you have nothing to lose. You’re at the tip of the iceberg my friend. The rabbit hole goes much, much deeper. At some point you will have to take another leap, and another. After each leap, there is no turning back and you will feel like you are risking it all. Because you are. You have to tear away the veil or die. Most people get stuck here. The initial red pill is just the beginning. Good luck.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (6 children) | Copy

Thanks.

So uh, what am I looking for exactly at the bottom of the rabbit hole? Any advice? I think I'm pretty deep into this stuff by now.

[–]BACONisKEWLEST20 points21 points  (3 children) | Copy

I have no fucking clue what’s at the end, if I did I wouldn’t be here. But I believe with every ounce of my being that there is a higher order to all of this, and I believe it by acting it out. Forget Jung and the other depth psychologists encouraging you to go ‘lower’. Man must look to the sky. If you’re a reader I’d recommend three books to you: crisis of the modern world by Rene Guenon, revolt against the modern world by Julius Evola, and Ride the Tiger by Julius Evola. Read in that order. If you haven’t read Nietzsche, although I suspect you have, I’d recommend beyond good and evil and thus spoke Zarathustra as preliminary reading before picking those books up.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Will do! Thanks.

[–]dtyler861 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy

These books sound very enticing. Not to brush off the suggestions because they seem like challenging reads, but based off of the quick summaries I just read about Crisis of the Modern world, would you say it’s heavy on Kali Yuga principles that don’t necessarily apply to daily life unless you really believe that sort of stuff?

[–]BACONisKEWLEST1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

The Crisis of the modern world is not a ‘daily life’ book, but an examination of the principle cycles prevalent in human civilization. It does not offer an individual solution, but defines the problem in terms outside our normal conception of cause and effect. Revolt and Ride the Tiger expand on this, with Ride the Tiger being a meditation on how to conduct oneself in an ‘epoch of dissolution’

[–]BACONisKEWLEST5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy

Also at 20 it’s very normal to feel this way, and is actually a good sign. It means you’re open to growth. But just like developing a good physique, you have to dedicate yourself to this. Meaning and higher purpose are developed internally, there are no longer any external structures that can give you what you seek.

Read the book nihilism by seraphim rose. Talks about where nihilism in modern day comes from and why it exists. Should be required red pill reading but not many people really explore the philosophical problems of the modern era

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

I will take a look, thanks.

[–]red_matrix1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Can you give a summary? Or expand on this - nihilism routinely creeps into my life.

[–]Endorsed Contributor: "The Court Jester"GayLubeOil11 points12 points  (1 child) | Copy

Nihlism can only be delt with philosophically. Ride The Tiger discusses the historical causes and the Hiedeggarian solution. So you should just read that book.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I will take a look. Thanks.

Let me know when you find out dude.

I have people I love a job I love. I mentor people here and in my life.

I have a good woman and children.

It's okay but it's just life man. We just spread and die.

[–]robtormar6 points7 points  (5 children) | Copy

This is the problem with taking the red pill. I know the feelings. Do you have kids? I saw a post once about a dude who had similiar thoughts and he mentioned that his kid changed his life. You can accept hedonia otherwise at least you will feel enjoyment

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (4 children) | Copy

No, no kids. I'm 20. Not considering kids ever anyway. I don't think it's fair to have a kid just so you can give some meaning to your life. I think that puts a huge burden on them.

[–]robtormar11 points12 points  (0 children) | Copy

You are still young. Your philosophical views will keep morphing. I'm not much older than you (26) but in 6 years I've experienced different phases (nhilism being one) especially after I went travelling for 5 months and got a ton of flags. I find when you are feeling like this volunteering or helping out people that are less fortunate will give you some satisfactio. Try it out

[–]MrGolran5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy

I don't know how this might sound but whatever here's my take on this. Money, girls, alcohol all those are external factors. Sure you can enjoy them but once you've reached the point of realization that everything is meaningless you should start giving your own meaning. Happiness comes from the inside. Depending on external factors to find joy will lead you nowhere. So what I think comes as a solution is focusing on yourself. Very cliche shit but trust me that's the way to go because once you start improving yourself you are never satisfied and now you have a purpose.

[–]Sakarabru3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy

There are no rules, only consequences.

[–]Mickusey4 points5 points  (6 children) | Copy

Your assumptions about people seem overly cynical. There is true brotherhood to be found in men. There is true love and appreciation and desire to be felt with women. Never discount these; they are temporal so they might seem purposeless, but our relationships and connections with others define us more than anything.

Beyond that though I see what you mean. You’re just young and are coming to grips with adult life.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (5 children) | Copy

There is true love and appreciation and desire to be felt with women.

Is there? I've never felt it honestly.

Beyond that though I see what you mean. You’re just young and are coming to grips with adult life.

Probably that's just what this is.

[–]Mickusey0 points1 point  (4 children) | Copy

Yes? You’ve never thought a girl was cute just because that’s the way they are? The disarming way a hot chick can talk and laugh? I used to be a total pussy and now I can actually hold conversation with them like normal people but that fluttering feeling is still there somewhere, and it’s magical. I love women. I love talking to them, flirting, fucking, etc. I love them for the right reasons. Not because one of them is a nice sweet surrogate mommy.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (3 children) | Copy

I have, but I never got that nervous fluttering feeling. They are nice to look at, maybe they have a nice sounding voice that tends to get grating after a while, but that's about it. The "magic" is all in your head. Once their looks stop having that influence on you (it's all sexual attraction, don't kid yourself) you realize that there isn't much else going on besides from the pretty face. That which you describe is not an exclusively male thing either, I've seen many women act like that around queen bee types. A fun experiment: act like their looks have no effect on you. Pushes all their insecurity buttons.

Besides I like men.

[–]Mickusey0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy

you like men

Well that would make a lot of sense wouldn’t it?

Why would the fact that it’s all from sexual attraction reduce my personal feelings any more or less? It’s still an incredible sensation. The source is irrelevant. Being able to experience it is the magic. I would hate to see things as cold and caustically as many on here seem to, it seems like a gray life.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

I get it it's a wonderful feeling, you just shouldn't extend that to their personalities. They just happen to be pretty, that's all.

As for me liking men, I don't even think it's a looks thing. I've liked men who've ranged from 4-9/10-ish. I just think it's much better to have that sort of feelings for something that's real. A lot of guys tend to project some personality that isn't there on those girls who will gladly play along because it boosts their ego. Then guys cry about someone woman that doesn't even exists except in their heads.

[–]adonis_syche2 points3 points  (3 children) | Copy

Albert Camus is the only meaningful way out. Realize the absurdity of it all and see the absurd side of everything and illicit joy out of it. You seem like a reader to me, so reading some Albert Camus will do you good. But reading it all in chronological order would be even better, you'd relate first, acknowledge the problem later, and arrive at the key to nihilism at the very last. Camus is the only good companion in this part of town. Cheers

[–]1kick63 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy

You have to find your own meaning.

[–]buddhismo_communismo3 points4 points  (1 child) | Copy

OP there's alot of good advice in this thread. I'll add some and consolidate others. I'll be brief.

  • Nihilism. It's ok and warranted that you've arrived here. Nothing in life matters. This is true. Everyone in history has to struggle with meaning in their life.

  • Absurdism. This is where I have arrived at. The beauty of this philosophy is acceptance of possibly being wrong. It is complementary to several praxeologies. Such as....

  • Secular Buddhism. I subscribe to a Materialist conception of history that denies Metaphysics as legitimate (as implied in other comments referring to Richard Dawkins et al). Great book called WHY BUDDHISM IS TRUE deals with this question in a non-dogmatic way based on evolutionary psychology. Meditation is incredibly valuable and scientifically researched.

  • Historical Materialism. This will help you have a grand scheme for your relation to history.

  • Dialectics. It's important to see the unity in opposites.

  • Modern Stoicism. This is useful as a Virtue Ethic. A Man's got to have a Code. This is the most rational code that I've found.

Good luck OP.

Thanks, I will take a look.

Cool, you figured out how this mundane life works...

But whats beyond it? this might sound like a shitty advice but i ll say it anyways;

Go do some psychedelics, magic mushrooms and DMT. They will change your life perspective.

Believe me, that nihilism you have there wont exist anymore once you come back from your trip.

[–]erthian1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

It’s not shitty advice. I am not a drug user in general, but they have opened my eyes in ways that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. Meditation was also the same for me, but different.

How To Change Your Mind (Michael Pollan) is an excellent book on psychedelics, how they became demonized, and why we don’t use them clinically. It completely changed my opinion of them.

[–]93125 1 points [recovered]  (1 child) | Copy

I’ve taken plenty of psychedelics and still suffer from existential dread. There is no magic pill (or blotter).

If you're in the 16-24 range and the nihilism is due to a lack of internal philosophy... I'd suggest reading Camus.

Nihilism is a very good foundation for building meaning on top of, but it's horrible as your life philosophy.

Edit: Note in regards to Camus, most people recommend the Myth of Sisyphus or the Stranger... but that's more related to dealing with your mortality and morality. If you're nihilism stems from social relationships, I'd suggest reading The Plague.

Alternatively you can try the stoic method of negative visualization, but I think the plague is, among other things, a very good window into how to do that.

[–]JGalt121 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Meaning. What specifically do you want to achieve? Set goals. If you already achieved your past goals set new ones. If you dont do this you will get nihilistic whether you red pilled or not. My interpretation off all red pill theory is that it attempts to provide the truth so we dont delude ourselves about the world around us. It can be very pessimistic as you going through the processes of the new way of looking of the world but after you do and accept, you fell the opposite - that this new view is not pessimistic at all but optimistic because now you know how to navigate it. That's my two cents.

[–]wanderer7791 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy

First of all there are some good people. You have to learn to keep meeting new people and culling the bad ones. Most people keep letting bad people back into their lives after they've been fucked over. Keeping your enemies close is a rule for those you can't escape from, like work colleagues. In your private life you can just get rid of 'em.

As for the fact that most people suck, get over it. It's like being mad cause the weather usually sucks, that's part of life. Learn to accept things the way they are.

Find a few good people and help them out when they need it and they'll probably help you when you need it. If they don't you know what to do.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

That's really good advice. Thanks.

Like the other user said, religion. I know religion is often shut down on reddit, but let me elaborate. Prior to finding religion I was dealing with nihilism and existentialism and I had no motivation to do anything that didn’t benefit me. I was following a life path that was selfish and was catered to my desires which were rooted in greed and lust. When you follow and feed those desires, you only crave more and more and become a legitimate junkie in a sense.

Ask yourself, is a lot of what you do rooted in greed and lust? And do you think it’s a coincidence that you’re feeling how your feeling now yet those 2 desires are condemned by all religious groups worldwide?

Religion taught me nothing in this life matters cause it’s all about the next life. However, this life is a test and God gave us rules to follow so that we can enjoy this life and be allowed entry to the next one. I can obviously go on but that’s the jist of how religion overcomes that feeing of existential despair. It causes you to wake and walk with a purpose in this life, not just to eat shit and fuck.

Go to a synagogue, church, mosque and just participate in their services for a day, something might click inside you.

There's lots of beauty and fun to be had in life. Don't focus on things that make you depressed or angry. People get upset when they find out the Disney Fantasy isn't real, but you can't dwell on that. Find stuff that you're good at that you enjoy doing and fill up your time with those activities. Eventually people envy you because you bang women and you seem to be enjoying life. Get in good physical health and your mental health ought to come along for the ride. There's a million things to do out there in the world, figure out which thing appeals to you and then go do that for a while.

It's not my thing per se, but a lot of people swear by meditation. You need to clear your head of bullshit and find stuff that you think is worthwhile to overcome nihilism.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

What you are describing is a kind of a deep selfishness human nature (or not?) You should read the selfish gene by Richard Dawkins and you will suddenly feel at ease with this and with your own nature

Warning: this book is not pure from ideology

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I have read it, very enlightening book. Only makes human nature look more disgusting. Maybe I am an idealist.

[–]Velebit0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

You have been brought up with metaphysical values. Abrahamic faiths and various blue aspects of our culture rely on metaphysics. Metaphysics are everything that is not tangible, real, present in natural world etc. Things like freedom, equality, purity etc...

Those things are not really present, they are tools humans invented to decrease the stylistic ugliness of life. This is also what belies things that are the logical extremes of blue thinking like veganism (metaphysical lie of equality and dignity that includes not merely all human units but all animal units).

Since you as a higher functioning and thinking human need structure to organize your thoughts, I will give you the only thing that is both logical and truthful.

You can call it ubernihilism (beyond nothingness). Rejection of metaphysics in a deliberate and genuine way. This does not mean lack of ethics or direction. Just refocus on real values not invented ones.

MERITORACY

LOYALTY

TRUTH

Those are good foundational values that combat the current metaphysical lies that hide in silly notions of equality, universalist liberty and bowing down to emotions. Some may say that what I am bringing up are merely ancient pagan ideas of masculinity against idealistic femininity but that is not so simple as the metaphysics, its philosophers and people who voted, fought and died for them were mostly men. It was (incredibly hypocritical) men who wrote the most famous lie 'all men are created equal'.

There are other. But there is a clear mission that comes out of these 3.

There is little room for invididualistic hedonism if you want to be honest with yourself, loyal person/citizen and grow through merit and surround yourself with only the highest quality of people. There is also the need to combat with bloody violence everything based on explict metaphysics. For they are your enemy, they hate you for speaking the truth. There is also realization that we are biodetermined and that our perception of personhood (of us being present) is merely an illusion created by working of our genes and various degrees to which genes are expressing themselves inside our body. We are genes. We die when our genes die. That 10/10 steroided up hedonist bachelor banging models despite being 46... he is not a success. He is the archetypical failure. He contributed nothing, he is dead (genetically as that is all that matters), he has no purpose, no mission, he is arriving nowhere, he is meaningless, he is subversive to society and if you want to be especially blackpilled, he is usefull to collective only as an infection that is destroying shitgenes (vulrnerable and mentally weak females who are like that for biodetermined reasons).

To become an overman you first have to declare war on normie world in your own head and be willing to allow nasty emotions that normies try to surpress to be a part of your mental ecosystem, not something you despise and avoid but something you cherish. Hate is horribly misunderstood emotion.
