The gift of injury by Dr stuart mcgill. He tells the story about how he helped a world class power lifter get past a horrible back injury and get back to setting world records. There is a section in it where the power lifter guy tells about coming to terms with the fact that he might never be able to lift again. I could never do it justice but it had me choking up.

Google Dr stuart mcgill the big 3 and you can get started on your recovery.

He has a few books.

I don't know if it's the book you are taking about or not. Juts sharing my experience. Lower back injury has the potential to cause sexual disfunction, sink the boat level shit.

I'm currently in another thread trying to sell people on safety and maby taking It easy on the compound lifts in your 40s.

I spent two years buying and reading every back book I could find. God damn I knew a lot about the back. About the spine. The hips. Anatomy in general.

Not too long ago I chose to go minimalist and throw everything away. Every damn book went out the door. Except the back books. I have 17 of them.

One day I started working my core. Yoga, pilates, physical therapy, crunches, and more - all - and I actually mean all - learned from life. None - really, seriously, none - learned from books.

It's like MRP in a way. Lots of dudes here get caught up in the planning phase. Or the reading phrase. Or the rumination phase.

Don't do it.

Jump right into the doing phase. I don't mean to sound trite, because I know what a bad, bad back can do to a guy - and you should be cautious and have actual medical attention where necessary - but I assure you that your salvation comes from doing, not from reading.

p.s. I read both of the books recommended here. They're fine. Inspirational and mind over matter. If you insist on books (with caveats that they're never a one-size-fits-all solution), Robin McKenzie is considered a God and there's a physical therapist in San Diego with a book (and whole program) who has some good recommendations. I can't recall his name and couldn't find him just now.

See a capable physical therapist for real help - and then do what he says every day. I'm now up to 3-4 times a day and it keeps me moving, keeps me capable, and keeps me sane.
