I like to think of myself as a Captain who never quits, but I can admit I do get tired every now and again. We talk about being fun, entertaining, leading the ship and always having a plan. We talk a lot about what a fun date is, how to live interesting lives and pull people into our frame.

What I do not see a great deal written on, which applies to us married/LTR family men with or without kids is what to do on our off days. So today I am reaching out to get some ideas or thoughts on how to handle down days.

Summer is here, and with two kids 7 & 8 a SAHM and a job that has me traveling a good deal, then home for a week or two it takes some extra work to fill a full week and not get trapped into “sitting around the house mode” all summer which sucks.

My daughter at 7 already displays exactly what a woman is all about. She shit and comfort tests me and her brother like crazy, goes from hot too cold and back again in a second, never knows what she wants to eat, but will eat what I put in front of her, and asks me every single day when I am home “Dad what are we doing today?”

Grinding for work has me lazy today. This morning we all woke up much later than normal and I was in the mood for some pancakes, which is not something we eat much of. Made some yummy buttermilk carb bloating pancakes and we have drifted around the house today. I have a 10 day trip that I leave on Tuesday so being lazy and sitting by the pool is my go to plan (there I said it) for today.

My boy is 8 and I am getting into a habit of delegating decision making to him to try and build his character and get him used to making decisions that impact a group of people. I do this often, but I especially do it on days like today when I am feeling a little worn down. Most of the time he will fall back on to one of the things we do often, park, geocaching, going and playing in the fountains, etc. But the way I see it is that he is calling the shots which in the long run should help him build character.

So, in conclusion the kids, dog and I are sitting outside around the pool either in the pool or on an electronic device (again something we have controls on) and my wife is inside binging again on 70’s show reruns. How someone can watch that show over and over again is beyond me. Well I guess I do that with Star Trek TNG but that is different.

Everyone is fat, full and happy this morning due to the pancakes so even though I am operating on a V4 today and not a V8 I am still leading the ship. Tomorrow is Father’s Day and I do have a plan for that, but today the plan is to take a day and work the butt muscles by sitting on them.
