"Can you imagine where you'd be without me?"

Ok, so I'm in my 30's and so are my buddies, we all came from nothing and happened to be smart enough to earn six figure incomes in the tech industry in the midwest, not super easy to do. All of our wives don't need to work and never have.

So at a party last week, myself and a few buddies are sitting around the table and the wives start talking:

"Can you imagine where they'd be without us?" They all nod and laugh.

I answer to my wife (the ring leader) -- "Yeah, I'd have a few more cars."

She gives me a look and I just smirk. The next day she tries to corner me on it and I STFU. Was that the right move replying to her rhetorical question? I could have just let her and the other wives pat themselves on the back for "raising such great husbands", and STFU.

So I'm not really sure if I end up on top in the whole situation at the end of the day.

Yep, you answered it right.

It's so funny when they do this BS. I think you were fine - just laugh it off if it comes up.

If you DNGAF about her or anyone else's thoughts on the comment then it was the right answer.

What would make you think this is the "wrong" answer? It is your frame. I would keep it and double down. If the wife wants to brag about raising up a little boy into a husband, I would point out all the benefits you would get if you were not saddled with her. Arrogance like that on a wife is a terrible thing. She will use it to ride you into the ground if you let her and it starts with standing up to the hen pecking harpies from the beginning.

My boss told me yesterday how he is getting married. I groaned and rolled my eye. He actually said: "Well you know, happy wife, happy life."

I lit into him like Mike Tyson and his wife. I have vowed not to let comments like that get by me any more.

I was thinking that even engaging her on the bullshit would be stupid, i'm really trying to take STFU to heart. I hadn't thought of it as a way to keep frame, thanks!

Your comment was good. You only turned the tables on her when they were doing the same thing. Bonus that you didn't take her shit and reminded her she is replaceable in the process. Don't doubt yourself here, just own it and don't take your wife so seriously.

I absolutely can't help but make ironic or sarcastic or A&A comments when the hens start clucking this type of feminist bs in front of the guys. Seems like you handled it well

[–]WesternhagenWinner4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

Don't be surprised if she broods on it and keeps raising it to test you. Maintain frame.

Well handled. Don't give it any mind if she brings it up, just laugh, or even double down about the other things you would be doing. For example:

Her: "I've been thinking about what you said in front of my freinds the other night."

You: "Oh, about what I would do without you?"

Her: "Yes"

You: "Yeah, I've been thinking about that too. (pause for effect) I would probably have a vacation home near Vegas or maybe Miami." Then immediate ass slap, and head out the door to do something while saying "love you babe".

"I can guarantee a weekly maid is cheaper than you. It's a good thing I have other reasons to keep you around."

^ the winning response imo

I was at a wedding for a multi millionaire owner of a software company. His second marriage.

She had 3 kids from three different men. Mid 30s plastic surgery etc.

All the speeches including his friends were about "how lucky he was to have her"

Disgusting

Yes they are divorced now

You kept frame for yourself and presented a role model for the other guys. A typical FI meme squashed so her mind was blown... now it's time to re-build her gently into your frame.

Yes. Withhold some presence for a few days to get your point across.

That's great

You let her off easy...
