I'll make this brief. I'm with a (supposedly intelligent/rational) female coworker and I quietly say to myself "Oh man, I forgot x." Ms. (supposedly intelligent/rational) coworker pipes in with "You know, it's kind of misogynistic to say that."

(Dude.....I couldn't believe it. I had one of those beautiful hamster destroying opportunities I read about here unfolding in my very own life. If only I had a recorder! Well, it's on.....)

"Say what", I ask, already knowing and trying to suppress my childish glee.

"Man. You always say "oh man" or "man, I" etc and it's a little sexist. Why can't you say "oh, woman? Why does it have to be a man?"

(Did I mention I really wish I had a recorder?)

"So you would probably say "Oh woman" then, if you used an expression like that?"

"Yes!" He gets it, she must have been thinking. Hehehe.

"Why not "Oh man?" Because you're a woman, I guess?"

"Well, duh!" she exclaims. Duh, indeed.

I pause, just loving this. "So, what am I?"

"A ma-.........." She suddenly looks confused.

"So is it sexist against men to say "Oh, woman?"

"No, that's not what I'm saying."

"What are you saying?"

"I dunno, when you say it it just feels sexist. I don't like it."

"We can stop talking about this now, but just ask yourself if what really happened there was actual sexism or just female inferiority complex. Then ask yourself how many times just that same thing gets men unfairly in trouble."

After that she ignored me for an hour or so. Following that she started being extra nice and asking me questions she obviously already knew the answers to.

So typical.
