ROLLO: The True Romantics | It is men who are the real romantics. It’s men who are the imaginative ones when it comes to romance, and all in an effort to provide a woman with the romantic experiences she says she wants. Romance is what Men perceive it to be for women.

What’s the difference between oneitis and being romantic?

[–]MacNulty19 points20 points  (5 children) | Copy

Oneitis is the belief that there is one person, a soulmate whom you were destined to be with.

Being romantic is a general term for expressing love, feelings or having beliefs that these things matter in life.

Oneitis is definitely a romantic belief, but being romantic does not necessarily mean you have to believe in soulmates.

Or, more practically, that there is this one girl who's your only opportunity for sex and companionship. Mostly a side-effect of scarcity mindsets.

All I’m saying is I don’t think they are mutually exclusive.

Guys who are more romantically inclined tend to develop oneitis and guys who have oneitis tend to use romantic gestures a lot more.

I think romance is a symptom not a cause. Actions follow thoughts.

Someone with abundance doesn’t bother with romantic gestures all that much. And why should they? They are to busy with finding women that are interested in them not the other way around.

I didn't say they are mutually exclusive.

I can definitely see some people with abundance do romantic gestures, they just do it for different reasons (it's not desperate supplicating, but just to make themselves feel... romantic).

I wouldn't be so quick to say what kind of people do what without a study to support it, so all I can say is how those terms are defined.

Also I don't think you need to be romantically inclined to get oneitis, I think we are all somewhat predisposed to it with hormones, confirmation biases, reticular activator system, and well... desire to make monogamy/relationship work.

[–]Chadster1130 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

I dont understand. So you think oneitis can be amplified with hormones and the other things you listed? You think it’s like a spectrum?

Also what is reticular activator system?

[–]MacNulty3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy

Reticular activator system is that part of your brain that filters stuff that is important to you at the time. I think if your brain is searching for reasons why some particular relationship might work because you already have so much in common etc, and is reinforced with feel-good and pair-bonding hormones, then you can definitely convince yourself that someone is "the one" for you. Your brain can trick you, is what I'm saying. It probably isn't an easy topic as far as epistemology goes.

Romance is another tool a man can use to give a woman 'the feels' and deepen their connection. Used wrongly, you're perceived as blue pill sucking up to her. If you're doing it to prove yourself to her - blue pill. But as with ALL tools, used the right way it is totally red pill.

This facinates and confuses me but seeing if from an red pill perspective it makes perfect sense. However - I do feel women feel something similar to romance when they have an Alpha male who is hitting both Alpha and Beta notes for her hypergamy.

Yeah, I agree. My last girlfriend was a 6.5/7, great body, average face. She literally would do anything for me, she would wake me up with breakfast, sometimes she bought me chocolates, etc all the little romantic things she watched on movies. I m sure, she did that because she tought I was better than her and if she pleased me I wouldnt go away.

So i dont see it as a masculine thing, but romanticism is a thing you do when you want to feel better with yourself or when think the other is better than you.

In any case I think its about selfishness.

But because off blue pill, low self percection, or even hollywood narratives, I dont know... guys tend to do it more often than girls.

Yup. If she thinks you are an alpha with provider capabilities she gon' chase your ass like there's no tomorrow. But better don't EVER get caught slipping in your game in the first couple of months or she'll become enraged when her DNA tells her she got fooled by an undercover beta.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
