I couldn't put this idea into words until I read more TRP and this post by Black Dragon on his blog http://www.blackdragonblog.com/the-alpha-male-2-0/.

The gist (and my take on it) is that there are two types of "Alpha."

There's the Alpha 1.0 you see in movies and popular literature -- the law firm partner or investment banker from the 80's. Driven, successful, constantly self-improving, but with a terrible temper and control issues. The Alpha 1.0 is self-invested and seeks to improve. He doesn't worry what others think. However, when he gets emotionally invested he loses his outcome independence and his big-picture view. This can be with women or with anything a man cares about at an emotional level in life (big project, kids, etc.) When things dont go according to Alpha 1.0's plans, he gets mad and starts yelling -- takes out his anger on others. He puts down rules and ultimatums. He ultimately pushes others away and creates man-drama. Alpha 1.0 goes to pickup girls with expectations, and he gets mad and upset and seeks petty revenge when he gets rejected. When a girl flakes, Alpha 1.0 immediately texts "Nobody disrespects my time like that, fuck you."

RP Alpha (Alpha 2.0) on the other hand doesn't become too emotionally attached to a thing or a woman. When things dont go according to plan, he looks forward and either fixes it or moves on to the next thing. Alpha 2.0 doesn't cry over spilled milk. Alpha 2.0 is ready to say "Next" and cut his losses, where Alpha 1.0 can only see the sunk cost. Alpha Male 2.0 approaches women with no expectations, and he doesn't care if he gets rejected because he knows there are a million more just like her or better. When a girl flakes, Alpha Male 2.0 texts nothing because he doesn't care that much. He's got too many good things going on to care about something so small.

I was an Alpha 1.0 so a lot of this I pull from my own experience. I try to be Alpha 2.0 but I feel my old tendencies pull at me. I do feel the Alpha 1.0 traits are distinct from Beta traits, though at times they may share some characteristics. From a self-improvement perspective, Alpha 1.0 needs to approach his learning experience in TRP differently than a reforming Beta. If any of you guys have some tips that would be relevant, I'd love to hear them below.
