So I just wanted to share something that happened yesterday that might be interesting

I’ve been lifting heavy and overcoming my lower back pain issues with my herniated disc

Hit my personal best of 185 squat last week

Been squatting 3 days a week with other other compound lifts

I fucked my wife yesterday around noon and took her for a surprise coffee date at 2pm

I plugged your height, weight and squat into the standard strength calculator and it came back at “Pussy” level.

6’0” 180 - you should be over 200lbs - I’m 5’8” and 190 and I’m just barely starting to feel thick.

So here's the deal: Be attractive, don't be unattractive. For all it's worth, getting huge is marginal ROI once you have passed "don't be unattractive". MRP pushes the "lift heavy" narrative hard, and for good reason, but the reality is that at a certain point it is less about how much bigger you can get and more about the changes that behavior has on the rest of your dysfunctional life.

You can be jacked and blue as shit or have RP frame and be disgusting. Both cases will get you some improvement over BP and unattractive, but you aren't firing on all cylinders. Getting your physical body attractive as well as your frame and personality is where you need to be.

Getting your body-fat percentage below 20% is bare minimum. < 15% is a good target. Sub 15% with decent muscle mass is 90% of the way there, where this is not what is holding you back, it is going to be all the other unattractive shit you say/do.

My squats definitely not ATG but it’s a work in progress as I am working on mobility but I definitely go slightly below parallel. I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s my hips or ankles - it’s most likely time for me to get a trainer to assist.

Anyone not squatting below parallel is asking for knee and back issues.

If someone were to tell the average person that they would "only" gain 3 lbs of muscle in a year after working out ~3X per week, they'd probably give up after a few weeks/months unless they got quick newbie gains. Cuz that's what most people do. Juice doesn't seem like it's worth the squeeze for all that effort.

3 lbs doesn't seem that much, over a year's time. Especially if it's your second year & you gained 5 in year 1.

3 lbs per year after {fill in the blank} years = huge, if you stick with it for years. And, if you don't get fat, it equals swole.

It's a long grind.

6'6", 235 lbs. Was 195 when I got married almost 3 decades ago. The juice is definitely worth the squeeze. It is totally worth it.

(OP, being strong won't make her wet. There are fat guys in every gym who are strong & no one wants to trade places with them. Being jacked, which makes almost every woman notice, will get the ball rolling, though)

TRT in my case - I’ve gained 10lbs an lost and inch maybe more off my waist in 4 weeks since I started. My lifts keep going up and up too - dunno where I’m at blood wise but doubt I’m above high end of range on 100mg a week. I’d be scared to see what would happen on a blast.

TRT for 2 years now. Lost 100 lbs of fat and gained close to 20 lbs of muscle. I wish I would have been on it earlier. I had Hypogonadism so my shit just blatantly did not work. So there are no cons for me. It all depends on what you need it for.

I did research for 6 months. I understand all of the science (more than my doc according to him), got my own blood tests run and made the decision. I literally had the hormones of a 90 year old man. In my research I figured out that the 8 years I spent on SSRIs for anxiety and depression destroyed my HPTA system and my body was literally not producing any LH which came in at .9 which basically is shut down. My brain was unable to send signals.

I tried to raise it for 6 months doing everything I could - supplements, diet, changing my exercise habits. Towards the end I could no longer lift and I had massive joint pain from low E2 so even BJJ was starting to be a problem. I was 100% better after the first 3 days and felt amazing - it just keeps getting better. It is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself because I actually needed it.

To be honest - I probably would have died of heart disease without TRT as my E2 being that low raises my risk exponentially. TRT has been shown in studies to reduce CV events and improve length of life if managed correctly. Most of the studies on the heart problems and other things were prompted by people trying to stop the use of TRT and have been refuted.

I agree it’s a very serious commitment especially at my age but I’d rather live a fulfilling life while I can then be 90 years old and have been miserable.

I’m old as fuck with a bunch of mostly recovered injuries, including a herniated back disc (L5) when I was 26 y/o. Had a mri 2 years ago and a lot of back pain bending forward was very painful

Mri says herniated l5s1 and Spondylolisthesis And a bi lateral pars defect (fracture)

Couldn’t lean over the dining room table to hand the kids a glass of milk without shooting pain

I worked through physiotherapy and got my core strong. It’s been a painful 2 years as I worked on getting my core stronger

pain started going away

Stewart McGill big 3 exercises helped

Started doing squats with just the 45lb bar doing low bar squat following starting strength protocol and kept adding weight

I’ve avoided deadlifts as it seems irritate my back. May reevaluate again soon

I’ve gotten squat up to 185 3 sets of X5 while using a lifting belt to stabilize my lower back and reduce the pain

185 is a struggle and causes some pain so I dropped back down and do 150lbs for conditioning and I keep adding weight back

It’s my belief that if don’t get my core stronger and lift heavy then the back pain is going to be a life long challenge. whatever is pinching in my back when I have an episode leaves me in excruciating pain for a couple days where all I can do is ice it and lay down

Lifting is helping to reduce the pain

I have some of the assholes here to thank for busting my balls this past year about using my back pain as an excuse for not squatting

In all seriousness - I herniated a disc 7 years ago - my squat is approaching 400lbs. Take it slow and the best thing you can do is squats and deadlifts for a fucked up back.

That’s reassuring. I Will start back with the deadlifts there is was no pain with while lifting but the next day and for few days after had a lot of pain which effects overall flexibility mobility I suspect it’s just from working new muscles groups.

I was up to 175lb dead lift but it was causing too much pain in my lower back.

I went back to down 100lbs just to perfect my form and condition the muscles to get use to that lift I am going to slowly add weight overtime while still pushing my squat goal of 250 by the end of the year

Had no pain during or after deadlifting 100lbs

I am loving the squats it gives me such great overall workout

Try putting some bumper weight below the barbells since you are probably having flexibility issues. I have a long back and do that for I round my back. Also video yourself to self correct if you don't have anyone to check your form.

Ok make sure to also keep the bar rubbing your legs on way down as well as up. Mant people go to far out since easier down which will stress. Also look up 7 stretches for powerlifter for warming up.

Im very short at 5'0, weight 125 lb, can now squat 194 lb for 3x5 due to 5 months on stronglifts. I was messing with the wife and squatted her a few of times whilst playing around and a few days later she slipped into conversation with a friend i could squat her.
