Social media in 2019 is phony as fuck. What reason do you have to keep it?

Reddit View
July 28, 2019

I have to see the other side of this topic. I must say that I'm very much against social media and have been for a few years, yet some of you claim it helps you out when it comes to sexual conquest.

I know social media only has diminishing returns and very few advantages. Between beta males and crazy bitches stalking you, the government watching you, and corporations logging everything you do and post online, why do you keep social media around?

How does it help you and why would you want to waste so much time on it? If you're one of those fake "influencers" then tell me how it helps you.

I don't use any social media at all except linkedin & reddit of course. All other social media is useless but they have convinced people that they need social media & you will be missing out of you don't use it.

There is no ROI in using social media like FB, IG, etc. Its very addictive, depressing & it lures you away from your goals and you lose focus

Watch Cal Newport's TED talk & read "Deep Work" book.

[–][deleted] 50 points51 points  (3 children) | Copy

Absolutely agree.

Also, despite the horseshit rational you'll get from women re men using social media ('I need to cyber stalk him so I know what he's all about!'), it's been my experience that they fucking love a dude with no online presence. they hamster you into whatever mysterious alpha they want ('he doesn't even have time for Facebook, he must be sooo important and busy').

Straight up: unless you're living a Dan Brazillion (or whatever the fuck his name is) lifestyle and can use social media to advertise that fact to sluts, it's pretty much just never worth it.

[–]trancedj5 points6 points  (1 child) | Copy

I love that you don’t know Dans last name.

I don’t either. 😂

I gave up all social media accounts about 3 years ago. No ragrets. Not even one. 😉

I’d get off reddit too but I need my daily dose of red pills. Decades of blue pill programming is god damned hard to overcome. And I’ve been here since like 2011. Always learning. Always growing. I feel like I was probably right on the edge age-wise to fully unplug. Just like in the matrix when Morpheus tells Neo that they never unplug someone past a certain age. The process nearly killed me. I was in my late 30’s when I found TRP. I’m in my early 40’s now. The struggle has been real but very much worth it. I can’t imagine dudes my age just now finding TRP and successfully unplugging. Those men are strong fuck.

This is next level trolling. Well done.

[–]WildCock301 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

This. I’m experiencing this right now. It’s bugging the shit out of her in a good way

[–]laserdicks9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy

I've discovered events I would never have found from friends blanket inviting their friends list to them. It has no effect on my goals because I don't require others validation.

I think this sub often mistakes the tool for seeking validation (social media in this case) with the *need* for validation, which is the true illness. Syringes aren't the problem, meth is.

[–]Walkerstain6 points7 points  (2 children) | Copy

Its very addictive

I never enjoyed them or found them addictive. The only reason I use FB is to creep on someone I'm trying to know, or vetting.

[–]TheMetalLED 1 points [recovered]  (1 child) | Copy

Facebook is great for vetting.

[–]good_guy_submitter2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

Yep. If they are on Facebook, they just failed the vetting.

[–]celincelin15 points16 points  (2 children) | Copy

Bitch please. Shitposting on Reddit isn’t any more productive than wasting time on FB or IG.

[–]good_guy_submitter1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Reddit is cancer just like other social media. Although, I like to be informed and prefer it over watching the news or reading the paper or subscribing to shitty websites.

The key is to unsubscribe from the default propaganda and watch subs like this one and others.

[–]Thinkingard0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

Absolutely right about it not having ROI. It's pure consumption. I sometimes think of all the many centuries of tribal living, then farmer living, the vast struggle for survival, all culminating into one overweight, out of shape, depressed descendant spending most of their time looking at a small screen consuming bites of info for the dopamine.

[–]TheMetalLED 1 points [recovered]  (7 children) | Copy

Funniest politician alive and he's not afraid to say the controversial stuff.

You should check out some of his insults, they are very creative.

[–]IndiansSmellLikePoo0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

Thought so.

I think Boris will unify the UK. Boris is a funny dude and I like his style. That insult is amazing, I'm sure he will do well.

[–]bradyo20 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I like the bloke too, but “being funny” shouldn’t be what we’re looking for in a leader. It’s better to focus on his confidence, how he presents himself (at least in conversation if not appearance) and his intelligence

[–]Kurush559 1 points [recovered]  (3 children) | Copy

Being funny isn't what I want from our PM (can't speak for you though). Just waiting for an election so the Libdems can save the day

[–]TheMetalLED 1 points [recovered]  (2 children) | Copy

Boris uses comedy and apparent idiocy as a disguise.

Just like the guy who was close to Stalin(Can't remember his name).

Boris went to Eton and Oxford and did very well. He's a lot smarter than you might think.

[–]Kurush559 1 points [recovered]  (1 child) | Copy

Oh he's a genius, I've gone through the traumatic Oxford experience too - it takes a clever guy to get a 69 (lol) like he did. My concern is less about his raw intellect (which I won't deny) but his intentions and, in my opinion, disregard for large groups of society (I. e. ones outside his own). I think he's a useless diplomat too. he's the kind of guy I can imagine being friends with, but wouldn't want as a boss.

[–]good_guy_submitter-1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy

Putting people into groups based on anything other than IQ or belief system is useless.

[–]GGrub860 points61 points  (4 children) | Copy

There is a similar dichotomy in social media as the alpha/beta one we use here that follows the Pareto's principle: producers(20%)/consumers(80%).

Producers post content that promotes their own business while consumers, mostly without realizing it, promote others' businesses. Girls are almost universally consumers since almost everything they post (food, clothes, makeup, tattoos and piercings, night life, vacations, weddings) promotes the products of other people and not something they actually created. This is why the instant they have babies they almost exclusively post them to obsessive levels, because they know it's the only creation they can actually take credit for. Many guys fall into this trap too by posting cars, gym supplements and other content that screams "Validate me! I'm own this product so I must be a high-quality person!".

Social media is nothing but an extremely powerful and free advertising tool for producers: this is what was truly revolutionary for. Smart businessmen caught up on it very quickly and took advantage of consumers' inherent desire to feel important and monetized it. Unfortunately it introduced or worsened many negative social aspects such as validation-seeking bahavior, narcissism, 80/20 splits for looks, wealth and status and many others.

Rule of thumb is: if you post something that promotes yourself, such as your own art, music, sports feats and businesses, social media is an amazing tool to have. Otherwise you're just being free advertising for someone else's business, just another cog in the wheel. Once you take the red pill for social media, you'll see it for what it truly is and you'll be able to maximize its utility for your needs.

[–]DatingTank13 points14 points  (0 children) | Copy

This guy uses social media the right way

Wants the difference between social media and real life? When you drive in a ford you promote it, new Nike’s promoting, walking around with a Starbucks cup promoting etc

[–]GGrub82 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

The difference is you're not actively promoting those products 24/7 when you use them and not to the entire world, while social media is always up and available as free advertising for everyone with an internet connection.

Consider how much money is spent for 30s ads on TV that are seen by a few million people at most. Social media takes that concept up to eleven while being completely free. This is why it's so incredibly powerful if used right and all these self-important people fuel it without even being aware of what they're doing.

[–]Estrogenoxygen18 points19 points  (0 children) | Copy

Business reasons is the only logical explaination.
I used Snapchat to game, I feel it's more of a messaging platform.

[–]blade_22221 points22 points  (0 children) | Copy

Everyone uses social media for a different reason , for others its a "pussysearch" tool , for others is a promotion tool , and for others a "tool" used by them to fill up their insecurities , if you dont wanna fkin use it , then dont. Go out and meet people and live the real life u like. Who gives a shit what do they use it for , focus on what YOU want and what YOU can gain from it to make YOUR life better.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children) | Copy

Imagine a very successful guy. He has money, assets, six pack, he's smart and well red. Does he need SM to get laid? My point is, it doesn't matter whether you have it or not, but by having it you just let their hamster spin less with your 500 followers and "cool" vacation photos. As Woujo put it, you have to be a transcendent man. Having SM doesn't make you transcendent, you are just another dude. And being a dancing monkey by showing off your life seems so try hard to me.

If you are a celebrity with lots of followers and social proof then it's another game though. But even then, you'd be better off without SM. Elon Musk, Keanu Reeves, Jon Snow (whatever is his real name) are admired not only because they are famous and talented, but because they are almost god like in their ability to stay mysterious when it comes to their personal lives. You do you, listen to your gut. There is no right or wrong.

[–]FW-1904 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

Deleted Facebook 2 years ago, one of the best decisions ever. I only keep Reddit.

[–]BoredOverlord6 points7 points  (7 children) | Copy

I mainly keep it because its useful for FB events, some of which even require u to pay thru FB for tickets or whatnot and also because I'm in friend groups which use group chats for organisation, as its unlikely anyone would go to the effort of individually texting me if I was the only person not in the chat. I find its also good for staying connected to people ur not really close with as you wouldnt typically get these peoples numbers, but social media makes more sense.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (6 children) | Copy

If they wouldn’t go to the effort of individually texting you, are they even worth your time...are they really friends?

[–]DatingTank2 points3 points  (4 children) | Copy

You could say the same about owning a cell-phone... or a landline phone for that matter. Are they even worth your time, if they don't send you a letter or visit you personally?

In some areas, FB is a mandatory communication tool unless you're a hermit. Workplaces may simply require it. Some hobbies and interests de facto requires you to follow a facebook group to sign up for events or stay updated. Similar situations are in effect with other social media in other regions or certain professions.

It's annoying, but hey, I didn't build the world, I just live in it. I will never not suggest companies and my local dojo to move away from FB and instead create a forum on their own webpage.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (3 children) | Copy

A cell phone has more uses than just communications these days. Landline phone? Who even buys them these days. Your points are invalid I’m afraid.

[–]DatingTank0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy

Exactly. Social media has more uses than [insert all the unhelpful uses of social media] these days.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

You've missed the main part of my initial point. Why have friends who can't be bothered to message you if you're not part of a social media group?

[–]sebbegerbert-1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy

For it isn’t about them messaging me personally just makes it easier to see who is coming and not coming to an event. Also use snapchat for banter with my close friends.

[–]laserdicks0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Absolutely yes. In every way, yes. Obviously yes. Or they're team mates in the sport I play organising logistics. Or a local community who I'm volunteering with at the time. Imaging requiring a personal invitation?!!

[–]LogicalOlive2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

I use to advertise. That’s it.

[–]cuteman2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

Sell stuff through advertising. Plenty of lemmings buying stuff because of Google and Facebook.

Personally? I'd avoid it.

[–]redpill_scientist922 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

I have a roommate that is obsessed with social media. He claims all that matters is how popular you are on social media. He wants to become a photographer so he can photograph celebs and has actually had some mini photo shoot recently with a somewhat popular Female Instagram rapper/personality.

He has absolutely zero game with women. On top of this, he has removed everyone whose been a real friend to him his entire life “because they wear cheap clothes/aren’t popular on social media”

He is an absolute garbage human raised by a feminist whore. This is what happens to these types of people who are obsessed with social media.

[–]Startlivingfornow9 points10 points  (5 children) | Copy

Work, money, and all guys should be building their Instagram for dating purposes imo

[–]FiveStarTendieDinner[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children) | Copy

This isn't an answer. How can a time sink that fits in your pocket make anyone money? That's what I want to know and see in action.

[–]Startlivingfornow9 points10 points  (3 children) | Copy

What? Lol. If you’re selling any product, regardless of niche, you’re severely harming your customer life time value and engagement if you don’t use social

[–]FiveStarTendieDinner[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy

I get that, but then there's the matter of "building an Instagram."

Okay what? Fuck that. Build a body that bitches will wet themselves over. Build a fucking empire that will rake in money. Build a reputation that will drive lesser men to do better, or kill themselves. This can be done without Instagram.

Why the fuck would any real man build an online profile to get a minuscule return on investment? Is it really worth the time you would waste?

[–]Startlivingfornow0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

Because you are in the attraction game. It’s a game of building your product and selling. Any good salesman knows you never collect all of your leads from one bucket, as this diminishes the quantity and potential quality of all of your leads.

[–]FiveStarTendieDinner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

And social media can't deliver any quality leads in 2019. Got it.

[–]2INNASKILLZ2K181 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Gotta be aware of motivations. Trying to keep up with the Jones's? Looking for validation? Approval? Might want to look at that.

Don't become feminized.

[–]TheHumbleAfrican1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

If it don’t make dollars, it don’t make sense. Only on LinkedIn for networking, and reddit to understand how other people think.

[–]throwawaylife7777778 points9 points  (4 children) | Copy

You suck dick by choice.

Social media is one of the best ways to build rapport and social clout for younger guys

[–]FiveStarTendieDinner[S] 18 points19 points  (2 children) | Copy

I wouldn't suck your dick by choice anyway, so keep being a smug faggot.

Both of those things can be done in real life without having to stay glued to my phone. Younger guys who need that kind of validation are more of your type.

[–]bradyo20 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

Why did you react so angrily to his comment? He wasn’t being smug.

I disagree with you. Sure, you can build rapport and social clout without social media, but if you’re under 25 and you don’t use any form of social media, you’re automatically outcasting yourself. This isn’t a good thing, it doesn’t make you stand out, it just makes you look weird.

Look at it how you want, but if you’re the only person turning up to the “non social media party”, and everyone else (including all the hot babes) are at chad’s Instagram party down the road, then you’re a social outcast, and are automatically disqualifying yourself from social circles.

Conversely, there is certainly a point where you can take it too far. Being on social media 24/7 is terrible for you in a variety of different ways. The key to it all is moderation. Use it for communication with friends, use it to post a picture or something every now and then, but don’t devote your life to it.

[–]FiveStarTendieDinner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Any social circle worth staying in won't be focused on Facebook or Instagram or other garbage like that. Shooting a text is more than sufficient. Attraction, rapport and bonding simply isn't built from being hunched over phones or sending pointless snaps at the club. It never will be.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

i'm surprised this was not voted higher if people on this sub have any sense at all. Facebook in particular is necessary (yeah it's pretty stupid but it's necessary); if you don't have a Facebook account with some kind of regular activity and some kind of group of friends either liking or commenting on your stuff, people are going to question your social proof. apparently people on this post want to ignore this or don't have any real world experience.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Photography that's it.

Other than that it's full of faggots.

[–]whosaccisthis940 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I only have Facebook to organize meetups with friends, buy/sell groups, hobbies e.t.c I don't waste my time 'liking' on people's stuff especially girls.

[–]uptimex0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Well I use Facebook for work too, like Linkedin, but also for hookups. Insragram is also to post attractive pictures and reach hookups through it. I don't use it. What else? Reddit, it is to intellectualize around. Let's say concpiracy around total informative dominance can be true, and it is okay, anyway they won't be able to handle it. Technical progress will lead us to something else. They can't hold technical progress even more.

[–]Bilderbergerwcheese 1 points [recovered]  (2 children) | Copy

For me, personally. I'm over posting on instagram, facebook, snap, twitter, all of them. I started to slowly NOT check it through the day and all the sudden I feel like I'm living in 2002 or 4 again. Feels good.

[–]Kurush559 1 points [recovered]  (1 child) | Copy

And what value does it add to your life? (I'm not saying it doesn't, I'm just interested as to how it's helping you)

[–]RedKepler0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I use Social Media less as a validation tool nowadays and more as just a place to share interesting posts/pictures I want to share. FaceBook I mainly use just as a place where I can upload photos for family to find and look at, as although some of my extended family live a short way away, its a good way to keep older relatives in the loop.

Instagram I follow helpful content creators (fitness, stoicism, JBP) and childhood friends I honestly like (they post phony shit which I tend to ignore) but that's a good way to keep up with that circle of people.

Snapchat is just a cesspool nowadays, using it to only contact people when I need to.

I understand people here hating on social media (I hate it a lot as well) going "its the way to lose all mystery of yourself, give your own power away, its validation etc", which is true- if you use social media the way everyone else does. If you post rarely, but constructive/decent posts rather than a picture of yourself every 2-3 days in your greasy hallway mirror, I think it's not at all a problem.

I understand people will disagree.

[–]BrownTycoon0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I want to stop using it, but every new person I meet usually adds me and keeps in touch through instagram/facebook. What can I do to make this stop ?

[–]riggedved0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

One has to. Because of business. I use social media strictly to to push my business. And to learn about how people are doing business and selling products.

Also, it's nice to have some of my close friends / family in it, where we share some things with each other.

[–]AuberyBitoni0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Facebook: to check out events. Bumped into a lot of cool events thanks to Facebook, it's the only reason why I'm keeping it.

Messenger; Basically for the group chat with my friends. It's fun.

Instagram: Deleted this app countless of times. I use it to weed out attention whores, will probably delete it again.

I think you're a bit paranoid about the whole government thing though.

[–]Koltasxxx0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I myself use facebook just as a messanger, but on Instagram I'm quite active, if your profile is nice, girls will DM you or at least like your pics. Had multiple dates and hook-ups through this. Of course looking for hook-ups IRL would be more beneficial and would give you a higher ROI, but its just easier?

[–]Nitrothacat0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

[–]sebbegerbert0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

For a guy in his twenties in Sweden you are like acripple without at least facebook. Not for scrolling the feed but to keep in touch with people, finding events, joing groups and group chats. We had a group chat for our class that the teacher owned and substituted for other means of communication. Meaning if you wanted to know anything about the progression in the course you had have FB or at least ask someone with.

[–]UpperRedSide0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Social proof and business.

Social proof because people can see who you know on Facebook, and if you know a lot of people, other people think you’re someone worth knowing.

Also, business. I have two side hustles. I play guitar and sing at parties, and I’m a photographer. Facebook helps get the word around.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

social media is for the goyim to stay distracted

[–]TheGradeRaider0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

It's just a form of entertainment. I just personally have no need to self-promote, so I don't use my name or pictures which was common for the sites that attempted social media pre-2000 (of course that happening had a lot to do with technology not being ready for mass edits and uploads yet). For me, that position still works today.

[–]hrecker910 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

For me, FB Events and Groups specific to me are important and useful. I can connect with people in my neighborhood/city that I never would have, give things to people around me instead of throwing them out, borrow things, attend events I'd never know about. The moms groups in my city allow me to find really great recommendations for anything I need (doctors, restaurants, trip advice, etc.) I also find FB useful to keep in touch with people that I am close to as well as see the "positives" in everyone's life. I know social gets a lot of crap for everyone being fake and positive, but it's nice to see the good things in people's lives instead of just the negative!

[–]ZeppKfw0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

SMV boost when girls look at my social media. I honestly just post pics that boost my smv but other than that fuck that shit.

[–]celincelin-1 points0 points  (5 children) | Copy

Regardless of anything else, you’re an outcast if you don’t use it. Sad but true.

[–]DatingTank1 point2 points  (4 children) | Copy

Exactly. It's like not having a phone, not even a landline. Can you live like that? Sure! Just like some people live off the grid without electricity or running water.

Some social media are pretty much required. Just use them in a way that's beneficial to you. For instance by having a facebook account with an inactive timeline, just to be able participate in relevant groups.

Knowing how to navigate social media, without wasting time or emotions on them, is a necessary skill for a successful man in 2019.

[–]FiveStarTendieDinner[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

I'd say I'm doing pretty fine and I disregard it flat out in every encounter. The bitch gets my number only, and down the line I'll tell her to add me on Snapchat during quiet periods in life (which I only use for nudes but I'm deleting that in the near future)

[–]DatingTank0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I'm thinking of this in a holistic manner, not just in regards of women

[–]Nighthawkdragon8-1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy

Be the producer, not the consumer. Posting instagram stories allows you to game every girl that follows you at the same time, and by keeping them on your highlights that epic set or party you threw stays with you for life.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
