There's a post on TIL right now with the headline

TIL Men initiate sex more than 3x as often as women do in a long-term, heterosexual relationship. However, sex happens far more often when the woman takes the initiative, implying that it’s the woman who sets limits, and that frequency of sex depends on how enthusiastic a couple are about it.

The top comment is

I'm glad this was studied, to provide empirical evidence, but you know every married man was reading this going "NO FUCKING SHIT!".

The rest of the comments react in similar ways such as "I wish I could be paid do to studies on obvious things."

So now that it's common knowledge that women are the gatekeepers of sex, why is that the case?

Does this invalidate the notion that men and women have "equal" sex drives? Or do the sexes' libidos change because of factors such as long term relationships? Why does the male sex drive hold up in an LTR? Is it more durable?
