So imagine a Star trek type world. We've advanced beyond needing to do anything. There are replicators everywhere and holodecks and transporters etc. Literally anything you could want is yours if you just ask for it. You could work but it would be like a hobby: no pay, no boss (unless you're in to that), and you can walk away any time you get bored or frustrated.

And let's say in this version there's no looming alien invasion and it turns out most people aren't interested in exploring the universe.

So just people hanging out in an awesome, if boring, society with no obligations and no wealth to acquire.

Would people still seek status? Based on what? Would holodecks eliminate any need for sex with another human? Or would there still be a drive find a real person to be with? What about marriage. And child rearing, let's say you could have machines raise your kids if you wanted so there is no obligation on you. How would that impact relationships?
