I think that if a sub directly led to real world violence, or has a history of doxxing, then they should be banned. In those cases, it wouldn't be the information itself, but the tangible real world consequences that are being taken into account.

Even beyond the philosophical/moral implications, if Reddit knew subs were doing this and did nothing to prevent it, I could see big consequences for the website as a whole. Which would bum me out, because it's a fun place to waste time.

Subs that willfully promote violence, harassment or illegal activity would be the sort I would ban.

I personally don't think so. Banning information doesn't make it go away and doesn't remove the adherents, and instead it just drives them underground into their respective digital caves. I prefer to keep the enemy in plain sight, checking up on them every now and then to ensure whatever ideological cancer that drives them doesn't spread too far. Most importantly, a lot of "forbidden" information harbors nuggets of truth among the sewage, and I'd hate to lose that to misguided, virtue-signalling bigots.

No. It's not even an effective policy. When reddit banned r/European the posters just brought r/European to r/worldnews, growing the size of the "problem" (in the eyes of reddit)

Reddit is a private company with site-wide rules. Any subs that break those rules should be subjected to review by the admins then banned if necessary. Rules such as hate speech, promoting illegal activities (this includes revenge porn), doxxing, ect.

Subs that habitually doxx people, invite violence or riots, or post illegally obtained content, yes. I don't see anything wrong with Reddit protecting itself from liability (to the extent it reasonably can while maintaining a commitment to free speech).

It's not a conspiracy theory movie for millenials, dude. Subs are banned because of HATE SPEECH, which is a very different thing.

No. It's easier for the relevant authorities to keep tabs on the hate mongers and crazies when they're in plain site.
