Video games, anime, comics, sci-fi, and fantasy. All of these were almost entirely the domain of men in the 90's/early 2000's (and they mostly still are by the way). I remember it was basically a death sentence to your chances of attracting girls. I remember girls had no interest in video games and God forbid if your were discovered to be a fan of anime. I think women's sudden interest in video games and other nerd culture is for the most part disingenuous. As a result of games/CGI becoming more photorealistic (less easy to dismiss as childish), and video games becoming more popular than books and movies combined women now see that video games are a huge cultural medium. Everyone, even women, play some kind of mobile video game on their iPhones. Now they want to police it and ruin it as they do with everything else. Women also view it as a way to appear more attractive to men. I am sure everyone here is aware of phony gamer girls and people like Anita Sarkeesian.

What do you think of this analysis of the recent interest women have taken with nerd culture?
