I've seen a lot of complaining recently about how we've been conditioned by society to lie about how much physical attractiveness matters. But the entire point of having such a societal trope was to try and counter the irrational "halo effect" around physically attractive people. So it's a good thing to have as a society, and people who disagree are either controlled by their animalistic urges and don't care or they're on the beneficial side of it and don't care about the long term ramifications.

Speaking of animalistic urges, one of the worst possible societal values that we can have is to "always be true to your feelings." You might as well just say "let the inner reptilian brain rule your life." It's completely irrational, and leads to disastrous outcomes (like poor/no partner choice, poor career choice, etc)

We should be doing what we can to control our feelings for the best possible long-term outcome. That's why guys conditioned themselves against falling for the hot/crazy chick, and women were taught to condition themselves against leaning constantly on feelings and first impressions.

The fact that we are losing these things is a very bad thing, not a sign that we are learning more about our evolutionary psychology. The evolutionary psychology is only necessary because we found it necessary to deny that our feelings might be bad, that doesn't mean that we should accept that people always follow them.
