Advice needed: How to have a successful side business and be your own boss

I’m an occupational therapist, I love what I do and I truly think I’m making a difference in my patients lives. The problem? I work in a for profit hospital that pretty much bitches their own employees around, takes away benefits, constantly hounded for not meeting productivity requirements, etc. I got an offer to work in home care which I declined because there was too much cons, despite making good salary and benefits. Despite declining, I would pretty much have more autonomy as a home care therapist. This got me thinking, why the fuck should I work for an asshole up top making money off of me? Why can’t I be my own boss, or at the very least, work on my terms while providing the best possible care for my patients?

I’ve come up with an idea to possibly have my own side business, perhaps make my own adaptive equipment to help people with disabilities live their lives. Sell it for cheap. No insurance needs to be involved. How do I start? How do I become my own boss? Any tips on how to have a successful side business?

I’m here because I think literally the thought of being your own boss has crossed the minds of every red pill man. Great men think alike.

Had some rehab with an OT for my upper body a while back. Just wondering, why not open up your own OT clinic? Leasing an office shouldn't be too expensive, right? Try to be aggressive to accept/make contracts with all insurance plans and hit up your local OT programs and undergrad schools to post about letting students intern at your place.

You could set your own hours, run your own business, etc. Could even hire a full time OT aide or assistant or something?

This is a great idea, I’ll possibly do this sometime in the future, after a few more years of gaining experience. I have no experience in outpatient therapy, I’ve only been out in the field for a year and a half working in a hospital and nursing home. Great idea though, will definitely look into it

What was the last thing you sold? When did you sell it? Did you make a profit?

You start by starting. If it's legal, you just start. Most of business is working out how you can give what people need to people who have money to pay for your services. You can do that immediately.

If you are stuck on getting people to pay, not offering what they want, not finding customers, etc then you have no business until you fix these problems.

erhaps make my own adaptive equipment to help people with disabilities live their lives.

Is this actually legal?

Don't even think about success and making money. Focus on learning and doing legit hard work. Internet will give you 1000 angles and ideas to explore. I know it's a fucking meme but it's NOT. The breakdown of tears when you put in your all and still fail is still 100x greater and more valuable then running some lukewarm business with lukewarm effort. It will stay in your eyes and future employers , girls, whoever will see it. Life is very long. Experiences and learning will stay with you and life will give you PLENTY of time and chances to redeem yourself.

In the end, all you end up spending extra money on anyway (if you're not retarded) is learning new things.

I think health care is hard work already but I am extremely passionate about it. I cannot see my self doing something else. I just do not like the idea of an asshole low balling me

It's very simple. Make it your main business.

Start running your business idea past your target audience. If they ask where they can find that service, then it’s worth investing time into.
