So I stumbled across the Amy Vanderbilt Success Program for Women booklet series by complete accident and I've only read four of the books so far, but I love how honest, straightforward and direct they are. It's like having an aunt sit down and give you advice from the 1960's on how to be a good wife, mother, housekeeper, community member and friend.
It's like a window into an era when much of Red Pill Women's philosophy was just a part of the culture.
Some things I loved so far:
- In Your Good Health, the author lists out causes for fatigue: physical causes but also emotional ones (undisciplined emotions, avoiding making decisions, shifting blame to others, unhealthy family relationships in which a clannishness can diminish new contacts, etc). The author also describes the importance of having a healthy sex life and says "As the wife you are the barometer of the climate of love in your home... The best of marriages need sexual refreshment. Believe in your husband, admire him, flatter him, dress up for him, love him. He will thrive on it and so will you."
- In How to be a more Interesting Woman, the author talks to the importance of investing in yourself and how such an act will pay dividends. She also explains that "a woman's self respect and there respect she has for others are shown in the appearance of her home as well as in her own appearance." This booklet also contains a fascinating discourse on the Feminine Mystique.
- In Now You're Talking, the author explains the benefits of being a good conversationalist and advises that women "talk to everybody" to get better. She also gives specific advice for improving conversational abilities such as by keeping up with current events, pay attention to details people mention when introducing others to you, and ask questions to get to know people and find common ground upon which to build deeper future conversations.
