For a while now I have been lurking in the "ain't it cool we use a late 90s movie that was extremely successful to show how counter-cultural we are" sub.
I wanted to find out 2 things:
- Is there any intellectual rigor and inner consistency in their thought?
- Does it ever hit a limit?
Keeping in mind, this is by no means an in-depth study, and thus these views are purely based on what I encountered, I think I saw some patterns. Here are my impressions, so far:
- There is some inner consistency, albeit not the best, but they seem always be hitting the same points, and deriving logically from there. Obviously the points can't be proven. So it is, at best, an exercise in magical thinking. What there is NONE of is intellectual rigor, sure they try to placate it's lack with using scientific jargon. And they often rejoice for being so logical and rational.
First of all, about 90% of their stories (Field Reports and such) seem, and I am quite sure, are made up. Everyone in those stories behaves according to their theory. It is a very simplified view of the world, where everyone plays their role. The closest behavior I have found is when children engage in make-believe play... if one of the kids behaves outside of his assigned role, the others will complain. "No, you cannot win because I am the super hero"-kind of scene. Even the stories that have "proof", those are often texts that would be SO impossible to fake.
But it is not only the FR that I find not rigorous, because they are not verifiable AT ALL. And thus entirely based on self reporting. There are also posts like:
"I went RP because my wife wanted to divorce me, and I wanted to keep her. She finally couldnt deal with my new gained confidence and left. But I am so glad that I am free now, so I can fuck all these college girls"
"Ever since I went red pill, my friends started talking shit about me, and stop wanting to hang out...I guess my truths were too strong"
It is supposed to make your life better, and yet, time and time again there are these posts about how...embracing the red pill, backfired and rendered the exact opposite result to what was desired. And yet those are still framed as victories. For a group that prides in their "logical skills" it should be quite easy to see how: "my goal was to stay in my marriage" followed by "my marriage is no more" is a failure, and not a celebration of freedom.
These 2 issues feed into each other: ALL stories, most feel made up, confirm the narrative being sold there. And since...there is no such thing as someone red pilling wrong....if you acted this way WHATEVER result you get....is the desired result.
- Does it ever hit a limit?
Not really, quite the contrary, the site turns into a permanent one up-man ship contest, where the wildest claims are swallowed without scrutiny, only under the assumption that..."when I make one it will be believed". But that is to be expected of a community, that to my view is mostly built around magical thinking.
Finally, a hit of common sense:
The whole idea is based on the premise of hypercompetitivity, "the superior ones fucks more" and the whole system hinges on inferior males not wising up. Why would ANYONE who truly is having as good a time as they claim to have...share how to, if one is convinced that in doing so he is making his own cake smaller. And most importantly....they constantly talk about how it is not about sex, it is about self improvement and what not...yet the only metric of success is sex... Id do a wild guess and say...guys who truly get that much action are happy enough with their life to no have to go discuss how much action they are getting.
