This is the first part of a continual series I am creating, I hereby name it: The Wisdom Series. In this series, I seek to provide wisdom from the Bible to all that wish to gain it.

Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction

We ask ourselves this: "What is the fear of the Lord?" Thankfully, Proverbs provides an answer.

Proverbs 8:13

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.

(Something King Solomon did quite a bit was speak from the perspective of "Wisdom", referring to her as female. "Wisdom" is speaking in the above verse).

From this we understand; to hate evil is fear of the Lord. But why is hating evil fear of the Lord? Here's my explanation:

Those who love evil don't know it is evil, they don't know evil because they do not fear the Lord (you cannot know that evil is evil without fearing the Lord); But those who hate evil know it is abomination to the Lord; they have knowledge because they fear the Lord. (An important piece of information: When King Solomon is saying "fear", it means reverence and awe to the Lord. It also, most likely).

This we now know: The only way to have knowledge of what is evil; is to have fear (reverence) of what the Lord has deemed evil (could also be fear of what the Lord can do, but it depends on the context). Thus the beginning of knowledge is fear of the Lord; because, you must first fear the Lord to gain the knowledge of what is evil.

What have we learned? The beginning of knowledge is fear (reverence) of the Lord (could also be fear of what he can do, but it depends upon the context). From this we have wisdom; that, what the Lord deems to be (evil), is always correct.

I would love to read your guys opinion on this!

Thanks for reading!
