Just got offered a new job, but God is still testing me.

So I went into two job interviews on Monday and I just heard back from one yesterday and they offered me the job. Both of these jobs are basically the same exact thing and I would be serving in a order management role.

However, although I would be really be happy with both I really would like a job at the one that has not come to a decision yet.

I made a bold move this morning and called the hiring manager at the one I really want and informed him respectfully that I was offered another position but I really would like to work with his team. Was there any way he could offer me the position. He said there were some other pieces in play (background checks etc.) that need to be done before he can offer the position but they will come to a decision by next Tuesday. He ended by saying I am definitely a strong candidate though. The job that has already sent me an offer said they need an answer by tomorrow afternoon.

I know their is no easy answer to this question and ultimately I need to make a decision but I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or offer suggestions I may not be aware of.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, brother. Take the job you are being offered now. If the other one offers next Tuesday to hire you for sure, then you can use that as leverage in the first one to get an increase in pay to stay. Or you can leave and take the one you really wanted.

But don't lose both because of a possibility that may not materialize, unless you would be happy staying where you are if you lost both. Don't overthink it.

I endorse this.

I just accepted the first one last night. I have an inside guy at the one I want to work at and he just went to HR complaining that they need help in the Shipping and Receiving apartment. That is not the apartment I applied for this time but I applied there awhile back and he told me I should be expecting a call soon.

He told me they need help in their sales department to which is the one I applied for this time around.

Who knows though. I prayed this morning if god wants to open the door then to open it.

Only time will tell. Either way I am happy to be doing something new.

Awesome, glad to hear it!

Wise words. I’d forgotten about that saying.

True. Thank you. I would be very upset if I had to stay at my current job. I’m just here collecting a paycheck.

Only other issue is the one that sent me an offer I had two of my moms friends there who referred me so she would be mad if I hurt their names by accepting the offer then bailing for something better.

But now that I think about it my mom does not pay my bills. I’m probably just letting her frame affect mine which I shouldn’t.

Exactly! I'm sure your mom would want you to work out the best deal for your future, wouldn't she? Regardless, do what's best for you. A job offer is a job offer bro. Don't let it slip away due to "what might be."

Thank you I appreciate it. Regardless it’s kind of a win win ;).

I’m looking forward to more free time and having my weekends. I’m about to start taking this disciple/evangelism stuff seriously. God has opened the door.

Amen brother!

Always say yes to legal money in hand.

Always. You're free to change your mind next Tuesday.

Ask God to make it clear which door to walk thru. I prayed that prayer at the end of 2016, and in 30minutes, 2 doors got closed, 1 remained open.

So always ask the Lord what to do.

But in this case, i would take the other job.

...I am definitely a strong candidate though...

What was that about if its not a hell yes than its a hell no. I get the sense they are lying and playing a game.

If you were that strong that would sign you up asap.

I agree. Once I stopped stressing for no reason that became more clear. Like I said though it’s a WIN WIN situation. Either way I will be happy. That job just happens to have more perks such as military time.

But I will still pray about it. If that door opens I will go through it. If not I still have a new job with almost the same pay and way more free time to advance the gospel.

Do you feel morally obligated to stay with a company if you've accepted an offer? If so, for how long does that moral obligation last? When would you start work at the first position if you accept their offer?

IMO ... Enter into some negotiations with the offer on the table. Try to negotiate a higher salary or some more leave time. If they really NEED an answer before the desired job offer is available ... then accept their offer.

If the desired offer comes through ... then take the second offer if you want.

I don't feel much compulsion to stay at a place of employment if a better place is available to me. Just have to determine what's "better" at that point.

And why frame this as "God is still testing me"?

You don't need to personalize every choice you make, man. You've got a job offer. You want a different position. Make a choice.

I want steak tonight. My wife makes jambalaya. I've got a choice to make.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
