Do you guys ever get shocked at how many people lack self awareness?

This is something I think of all the time, it’s insane to me how little self awareness most people have. They just don’t get IT and honestly most never will. An easy example would be a typical Karen having an outrage or a manchild throwing a fit because a certain product is out of stock. Both situations are pathetic, but I’m trying to learn how to empathize more with those people. Do you guys feel this way or am I judging too harshly?

No. People are fucking idiots. The sharper you get and harder you work, the more you’ll notice this. You can do one of two things. Be pissed off that people are so retarded, or be grateful that people are so retarded leaving more room for hard workers and thinkers at the top. I chose... both.

It only gets worse from here.

Cheers boys.

90% of people are victims.

Edit: voluntary victims.

One of My high school teachers said it best when talking about having a failing asshole student, something to the effect of:

“Not every student is going to model excellence or be a mind that I can mold/teach. That’s okay; I’m grateful they’re letting me know upfront to not waste my energy on them. Everyone’s got a place in society. Someone’s got to make my McDonald’s order. “

I'd disagree with high school aspect of it though. Grade 12 and under, you could have gotten 90s for all of your years, and you wouldn't learn shit. That's what happened with me. Like straight up failing obviously isnt ideal, but dudes who were barely passing are either now REALLY succeeding or REALLY failing while everyone else is just cruising through the system.

I finished 2nd to last in my class in high school and since enrolling back in school I have a 4.0 GPA. I agree with your teachers sentiment, but I will not be working at fucking McDonalds lol.

They don’t care about it. They care about themselves. It’s good and bad.

I used to think this way until I realized no one cares and you can’t save them. Just do you.

Everyone is sooooo deep into their own world and everything is about me me me me. It’s not good and doesn’t help anyone but themselves.

Majority of them get their way. But what does it cost? It costs friendships among other relationships, misunderstandings, entitlement, etc.

These people can have some other good characteristics though.

I’d say just focus on yourself and don’t look at these other people, there’s nothing you can do about them digging their own graves.

[–]Emerald__Faith15 points16 points  (3 children) | Copy

This was the hardest lesson I had to learn, I naturally want the best for others.

Nobody cares and you cant save them, only they can but they probably wont even try

I constantly remind myself of this...

[–]agoodcrayon3 points4 points  (2 children) | Copy

Yep if you knew the key to life... wouldn’t you want to share it?

Once you do, you realize no one was ever looking or they’re “smarter” than you.

I feel the same way. But now I understand it more than ever after reading “The subtle art of not giving a fuck.” The author, Mark Manson, explained that when people have boring, mundane lives, they have no choice but to flip out over an item that’s out of stock, or the latest celebrity news, or the 10% discount on underwear that ended right before they arrived at the store.

You see, most people’s lives fucking suck. Period. They have no choice but to give a fuck about the most pointless shit, because they literally have nothing else to give a fuck about. If you really want to empathize with these people, don’t engage them. Just feel bad for them, because they are miserable.

[–]Hungboy696942014 points15 points  (6 children) | Copy

I always felt this way about my mother. She was a spoiled housewife and would flip out over the smallest shit. Always seemed like a desperate attempt at getting attention

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (5 children) | Copy

My parents are the same way. Every little piece of news, they’re pissed off. Every time some stupid deal runs out, they’re mad. It drives me nuts. Especially the news. I tell them “everything that goes on in Washington DC is beyond your control so why do you care?” But they don’t get it. I tell them to go on a long run, and then see if they care about trump or Nancy pelosi. Lol

[–]Hungboy69694204 points5 points  (2 children) | Copy

Yep. Tho people gotta vent sometimes. Hopefully it's at home and In a controlled environment

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child) | Copy

It’s crazy, they think I’m totally emotionless but in reality I’ve decided to control the things I can control and not give a fuck about the things I can’t. And no they’re definitely not getting pissed off in public, it’s more at home. But anyways, I highly recommend you read mark manson’s book. It’s very eye opening.

[–]Hungboy69694202 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

I'll check it out, I saw a couple of his books at Target the other day and it reminded me about them

[–]falcorn2232 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy

Yea my dad gets so pissed and freaks out over this Trump impeachment bullshit. He is a FOXNews junkie.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

My parents are currently doing that exact same thing as we speak. I do not understand how anyone can watch so much Fox News. I’d off myself.

[–]xxx69harambe69xxx35 points36 points  (1 child) | Copy

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

It’s not profitable to have self-awareness in most situations. It will fuck up a guy’s game. Jobs don’t particularly care. Women just plain old don’t need it. It’s not that people are dumb — although they are that too — just the social environment selects against it.

[–]Purplegetraenk12 points13 points  (1 child) | Copy

Most people are delusional, (they live in their own movie)

[–]thatguy768909 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy

Dont pity them they chose it, there are very few fat people who cannot lose weight and even fewer people who cannot develop self awareness they dont want it they enjoy shutting off their mind they dont want to think or to introspect

[–]SoA_MC8 points9 points  (0 children) | Copy

I think most people just lose the ability to control themselves in public or social interactions. All relates to self esteem and most people lack it. When they go home, all that lost awareness probably comes flooding back and they have regrets about their actions or words, but it’s about not losing it to begin with. Either they learn...or they don’t.

Worst part is seeing men in their late 30’s 40’s still making schoolboy errors. It’s like, how haven’t you learned?

[–]InternationalRadish98 points9 points  (0 children) | Copy

We can't help but apply our own internal standards toward our judgment of other people's behavior. People who don't have self-awareness don't realize how they're coming across to others and probably don't feel as shitty as you would if you did something similar. They have all sorts of rationalizing/defensive Psychological mechanisms in place that prevent them from seeing themselves clearly.

But to answer your question, yes. I am shocked sometimes when I have to deal with someone who lacks self awareness. Especially when the word-vomit phase starts, when you can kind of see that on some level they realize that they've made a mistake but don't want to admit it, lol.

[–]TRP VanguardHumanSockPuppet6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy

People do whatever is effective. We live in a sheltered world where temper tantrums are still effective at getting them what they want.

People who come to TRP looking for answers only become self-aware because a lack of self-awareness stopped working for them.

[–]TheStumblingWolf4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

Our whole civilization is built on the fact that if something is wrong, it's something external's fault. You have to get a new girlfriend, new job, new car, new computer - whatever - to fix your problem. It's always something else. People learn to look everywhere but in the mirror to solve their problems and then they can't figure out why they keep having the same problems over and over again.

[–]LateralThinker134 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

Sheeple is a word for a reason. So is the concept of the NPC (and the rage around this meme was amazingly funny). Most people are not terribly self-aware.

[–]jenovajunkie5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy

I mean, yeah you kind of are judging people too harshly.

Not everyone is on your level bro, and the sooner you accept that and learn just to be content with how you behave. Man, if you're even going to say that it pisses you off, either tell them why or shut up.

People will be people and there is not much you can do about it, so sit back and enjoy that drink. Otherwise you just being them, but online, and not in public, because you're too afraid what people will think of you.

[–]shitpommesfrites6 points7 points  (1 child) | Copy

" This is something I think of all the time, it’s insane to me how little self awareness most people have. They just don’t get IT and honestly most never will."

You and every person on the planet have exactly these thoughts. "I am the only one who knows whats going on, everyone else are idiots." Relax mate, you're not some rare exception who "gets it". Even Karen are under the assumption that she is the only one who has this whole thing figured out.

Self awareness are a good thing, don't get me wrong; but this idea you're trying to convey is not about being self aware, on the contrary it's an example of the opposite.

[–]clickherebaby2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

I hear what youre saying, but at the end of the day we must come as close as possible to drop an objective anchor in reality. Some of the tenats of a truly good and productive life are less obvious than others.

Its rich dad poor dad, but across all aspects of life. Most people are financially illiterate, but they also dont understand relationships, emotional control, a healthy framework with stable eating and exercise, healthy hobbies, mindfulness, spirituality, etc.

And life is chaos. Were all privileged in some way. Unless youre in the bowels of India or Venezuela or Sudan. Its very difficult to gather your life together. Thats why so little people get it together. I see rich people bragging but theyre fat asf.

There's nothing to "get." Life is simple. The knowledge to be successful is more ACCESSIBLE than ever.

[–]KingGerbz2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

Simply being aware can open endless doors of opportunity. Of yourself, your surroundings, your pitfalls, everything. Hyper vigilance to life

[–]Thunder_banger2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

Stop granting so much power to the notion of autonomy, people are generally less self aware because most people don't get exposed to the type of pain that Spurs consciousness to become more aware of itself. Or when they do, they don't have what they need to in order to gain the awareness. Regardless you shouldn't feel such negativity over this process in others.

Empathy for them will come after you become greatful you aren't them. All empathy is self empathy.

Tldr: it's not a choice, so start with pity.

It is much easier to be a professional victim and blame others for their miserable life. It takes guts and commitment to work hard, recognize one’s own short comings, and overcome obstacles to achieve the life you want to have.

[–]fretty5553 points4 points  (4 children) | Copy

Throwing a fit or having an outrage doesn't mean someone lacks self-awareness. You're confusing self-awareness with how you think others ought to behave. Self-awareness is literally being aware of your self. I can throw a tantrum and still be self-aware/sentient while doing it. Self-awareness is just knowledge of self.

[–]orishasinc22 points3 points  (3 children) | Copy

Boooh bullshit. Self awareness equates self control. If you can't control your fits and tantrums over the most meaningless normal daily mishaps then you are a little child, an immature spoiled brats you think the world out to revolve around his petty expectations. That is the definition of lacking self awareness. Shut the fuck up and move on, there is always a tomorrow!

[–]falcorn2230 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

You can “fein anger” to influence someone and they get offended and frame it as a tantrum. That scenario has happened to me... i must be a reslly good actor.

[–]clickherebaby-1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy

100

[–]fretty555-1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy

I'm talking about throwing a tantrum with full control of myself you retard. But sure people who generally do those things out in the world most likely lack it.

[–]Whammytwotimes0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I notice this with how a lot of men approach relationships and love. and it’s not So much self awareness as it is reality awareness.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Not really.

Reading the conspiracy against the human race made me open my eyes to a lot of shit though.

If nobody has read this book I would highly suggest it.

Majority of people in life are spoon fed information from birth to death never expecting more. Once you become redpill not on women but in fucking life. You realize how dumb and ignorant the masses are
