What is the worst marriage advice you ever received?

My great grandmother once told me to never go to bed angry and wow does that not work for my husband and I. This is not objectively bad advice, as I hear many couples adhere to this rule and it works for them, but I married the most stubborn man alive. If we were to stay up all night, trying to work out an argument, before we've both had time to cool our tempers, we'd just end up in a more heated fight and say things we regret. Sleeping on our feelings is sometimes the best way to realize we're wrong or just be willing to explain ourselves in a calmer manner.

My father in law and brother in law both advised my husband to sit back and let me make all the decisions. :) My brother in law half jokes that he got married so he wouldn't need to think--his wife handles all the thinking/planning/decision making in the marriage.

I think it's bad advice for obvious reasons. My FIL and BIL are very nice people and seem to be reasonably content in their own marriages, but I'd take anything they say with a pile of salt.

I’d say the worse from my culture is “trust him blindly if you’re a REAL GOOD woman.”

Like er why can’t we be good still, with mutual respectful agreements and negotiations to safeguard both interests rights? Two people can have agreements and deals together intimately, without anyone’s meddling. Dunno.

I always see solutions and options. Saving, healing, fixing. Not disposing and repeating patterns. Like how many slaps (not literal) needed to wake up lol ... we grown or stuck somewhere else?

Traditionalism can be beautiful if it preserves and space for everyone’s interests not just one. Entire collective.
