I’m not really surprised by the divorce rate in the US. We have become very selfish since consumerism is constantly shoved down our throats. There is always new stuff to consume. What you have is never good enough... the list goes on. We sacrifice instant gratification for long-term happiness almost every day. So why would staying with the same person for life have any appeal? It doesn’t.

What does surprise me is the fact that the person leaving the marriage is about a 70% the decision of the woman. That’s kind of insane if you think about it. Even worse is the fact that that number jumps up to 90% for college-educated women (source: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.whitleylawfirmpc.com/3-reasons-why-women-initiate-divorce-more-often-than-men/amp/). This article goes on to blame men for women wanting to get divorced (of course women are flawless, as we all know).

Now this is only surprising and upsetting because I have never once heard a guy friend of mine talking about how he’s been planning his marriage ever since he was a little boy. We don’t think about that crap. But women do. And I cannot fathom having a dream since I was little and not doing the bear minimum to make sure my dreams came true.

Again, this is no big deal if those were statistics for relationships. But you CANNOT blame men for the shitty situation you put yourself in when it involves marriage. It’s like spending 8 years in school to become a surgeon, then being like “I hate this job, and it’s everyone else’s fault that I hate it.” There are no arranged marriages ladies. You were not forced to marry him. Your husband did not turn into a cheating POS overnight. You did not vet properly and this is the result. And you’re even more to blame if you have kids with him.

And yes, I know, Disney sold you this lie about Prince Charming and how you just need to exist and a man you don’t know will give you everything you ever asked for. But you’re brain is fully developed. You should be able to discern fact from fiction. Grow up. This is why you said yes to a man who spends his weekends playing video games in his boxers, and talking about how cool he was in high school (OK that last one is me, but still).

And.... debate!
