I think a lot of psychology research shows that women are much less comfortable defying authority than men are. Women tend to score much higher in agreeableness and conscientiousness than men, and part of these personality trait is compliance and trust. It's usually considered an excellent trait for prosocial behaviour.

However high agreeableness does not always lead to prosocial behaviour, in a Milgram experiment conscientious and agreeable people, when forced by ill-intent authority, are more willing to administer high-intensity electric shocks to a victim, because conscientious and agreeable people are less capable of resistance.

I don't necessarily think it has much to do with women not caring about others or not loving others. If I also remember the Milgram experiment correctly all of the subjects showed signs of distress, so it wasn't like they were cheerily going along with authority rather that they felt that they couldn't resist/ were being forced to do so.

Could also be because women have a higher pain tolerance (not threshold) than men. To complicate matters, men respond to pain differently in the presence of women

“Women don’t love men as much as men love them.”

I’m female and beginning to suspect this is true, even though I love my husband. I feel like my love is spread around more between him, our child, family, the animals under my care, etc. Where can I read more about this phenomena?

Women score higher in agreability on the Big 5 test. They are more likely to accept authority than men are. Nothing surprising or non-RP about it. Women are more submissive than men. More willing to be led. This is also why women tend to be more socialist than men.

None of this should sound weird. It's all well-understood when you investigate personality dynamics by gender.

The other comment made me wonder if they have given certain psychological tests to women to measure their score on agreeableness and conscientiousness. It'll be interesting to see if there is a correlation between high agreeableness/conscientiousness and the number of times of the highest shock.

I'll maybe check out the test you post when I have time.

Milgram's obedience studies are highly unreliable. Although they are well known they should not be taken seriously beyond an inspiration for thought and have been discredited all over the place. Just so you know!

Woman giving higher shocks could elude that they obey authority figures more. This would in turn take us down the path of our societal structures and pre-indoctrinated sociological expectations for women to stay home and obey their husbands. Our society is moving in the right direction and liberating women's rights, having more equality, but we need to focus on the mental aspect too. Too much media and movies still sway towards women being obedient. This could be a reason that they gave higher shocks, and during the time of the testing, women were more oppressed than today.

Anywho my thoughts anyway.

Women conform more than men on average and are more agreeable on average. Perhaps there are more causes. That's all I've remembered from my courses.
