This country likes to build up girls and then blind side them and snap them like twigs.

Edit: the way girls are raised leaves them totally exposed. No idea of misogyny, #NotAllMen, "you can be anything you want when you grow up", #GirlPower, pretending rape is rare, pretending all you have to do is say no and you'll be magically protected from rape, and more.

Yes yes yes! This is brilliant and so true. There’s a reason why that “brave girl” statue became such a popular piece of Instagramified liberal feminism - it’s because it’s a girl, not a woman.

You see this all the time too with male writers. They write “powerful”, maybe even nuanced girl characters and sexist shambles of women characters.

Everyone loves a girl who wants to be president. Society does not love the women who try.

Because they can suppress the voices of little girls when they need to- when it becomes about more than using them as props. They can’t silence powerful women. It’s all about control.
