Ive been thinking lately about how going to the gym all the time can be kind of “self-centered.” I mean youre spending hours of your day just trying to make yourself more attractive. Thats not to say that being fit isnt important, it definitely is, but I wonder if there is a smarter way to go about it.

For example, in biblical times, your average dude didnt have time to “hit the gym” five times a week. There was too much work to be done. But it was likely heavy manual labor like farming, and he got fit as a virtue of doing that all the time.

And so he was still getting the benefits of “lifting” but his exercise was contributing to the well-being of his family and community, rather than just making a bar go up and down.

So now Im sitting here wondering if there is a practical way to enact that same principal in modern society. If there is a way to get fit while also contributing something to the world.

I get that its kind of far-fetched and probably impractical but I believe its worth discussing nonetheless
