Whats up guys. Today I’m going to talk about the importance of goal setting, and beyond that the type of mental frame you want to have towards raising your SMV and becoming who you want to become. Everything starts with the right mentality.

So first things first, I want you to remember a time when you did something positive in your life for a few days in a row, whether it be jogging, meditation, eating a bunch of kale and shit, lifting or anything else that is a positive accomplishment. Ok now remember that feeling of satisfaction on that third day of doing stuff, remember how you walked around differently, remember how you were a little happier, remember how you were more confident. Ok good. Now you can understand how processes and habits compound and are based on momentum. The greater your positive momentum, the greater confidence, happiness, and sense of well being you have. This is because your brain is able to see that the future will probably be as good if not better than it is now since you have and are gaining positive momentum. Ok, so key concept here is generating momentum.

Now how does something generate momentum? Is it through little explosions of complete max effort? No, huge amounts of momentum (positive or negative) are created through LONG TIME PERIODS of actions, aka habits. I avoid the word habit because I think it gives too narrow a viewpoint on self development activities. If I eat a salad today and go for a run tomorrow am I forming a habit? No but I am building positive momentum for sure. Technically you dont need to form any habits to be constantly gaining momentum and bettering yourself. You could constantly be doing different activities that work on the same principles in yourself. There are thousands of ways to work self discipline, focus, strength, etc. Anyways a bit of a tangent but the point isnt to knock habits, habits can be very helpful, but don’t get tunnel vision with them. Understand that creativity is as much a part of becoming a better man as is anything else.

Secondly becoming a better man happens along a long time scale (1+ years), so you need variety in your actions to keep from getting bored. Switch up the grips on your bench press. Do 700 pushups a day for a week instead. Switch your volume. Etc. This brings us to the next point of this post: LONG TIME FRAME. KEY CONCEPT: MOMENTUM SUB CONCEPTS: VARIETY AND THE LIMITATION OF HABIT. If you want to dramatically change who you are for the better you need to start looking at this shit in a long time period. Your entire life, marketers have been placating to your desire for quick results with little effort. Add 50 lbs to your bench in 5 weeks! Take your confidence from zero to hero in 30 days! How to build a harem before summer! All this stuff is not only wrong, but it actually sabotages your ability to become a great man.

Great men didnt become that way because they read layne nortons article on 6 weeks to a bigger bench. They got that way by having clear long term goals (1+ years) and setting up their life and taking action in such a way to practically guarantee it will happen. Remember the tortoise and the hare. I’m not trying to be pedantic but thats part of the beauty of this viewpoint, its so fucking simple that you dont need any “new funky tricks” to get it done. All you need is time. And the cool thing is that that is exactly what we have. KEY CONCEPT: LONG TIME FRAME, BECOMING GREAT IS A MARATHON SUB CONCEPTS: PROPER GOAL SETTING, AVOIDING GET RESULTS QUICK TYPE OF MENTAL TRAPS

You need to realize you have potential. You have a massive amount of potential. Everyone does. You are like a little snowball at the top of mount everest. You have the ability to take consistent action every day which will turn you into a fucking avalanche of awesomeness after a long time. You just need to rethink what becoming a great man entails. It entails first and foremost THE RIGHT MINDSET for success. The long term mindset. Understanding that who you are today vs tomorrow is basically the same but the difference between who you are today and December 12th 2016 could be absolutely transformative. All you need is to have a clear vision of where you want to be, have a daily plan to get there, and go about your plan with a calm, balanced, self assured, even peaceful disposition knowing that IF YOU LIVE THE PLAN YOUR RESULTS ARE INEVITABLE. YOUR GREATNESS IS INEVITABLE. ONE LITTLE DAY AT A TIME. Get ready for the long haul boys. I have presented my case for long term thinking, if I was successful then I’ll see a transformed you in a year.

PS- I think the key to really getting this mindset is understanding that its not “hard” to do it. You know whats hard, whats really taxing on you; little explosions of max effort. Those explosions of max effort actually drain you and make it inevitable that you will either quit or stagnate. When you take a long term approach, self development is pretty damn doable. I hesitate to say easy because people will associate inaction or sitting on your ass with ease, but becoming a great man can feel pretty damn normal when you approach it this way. Its not like one monumental emotional moment after the next. It is pretty ho-hum. Anyways this post has gotten to become a long time frame in itself. I hope you all can adopt this mindset. Its benefits are quite literally inevitable.
