Boys bad, girls perfect. Same ol' same ol'. Of course the APA would come up with some dumb shit.

That's why therapy is pointless. Almost all psychology is about marketing shit and manipulating groups anyway since the 1950s. The rest is drugs and doing therapy that is completely geared toward women and how they think anyway.

They've never given a shit about men. Pick up a rifle and charge a hill is all that matters. Got problems? Here's a pack of Marlboros and a bottle of whiskey.

Not that psychology actually helps anything. Let's be honest, psychology based on surgery or locking up people with fucked up brains due to injury is something.

"Not being happy" is not anything they can cure, that you can't cure yourself anyway. It's just talking while being drugged. Yay.

OP, amazing find, thank you for sharing.

I enjoyed the first 9 criticisms of the APA's sexist propaganda. They range from challenging the scientific merit of the evidence used to arrive at the outcomes, to openly (and rightfully) describing it as a product of dogmatic blindness.

The final entry left a very bad taste in my mouth, however. While the other responses call for responsibility, accountability, ethical review, and reason (masculine traits, by the way), the last entry does with some fanciful handwaving.

I haven't paid attention to Christina Hoff Sommers in a while—which was a breath of fresh air from all of the misandry floating about—but I am thoroughly dismayed by her review, as I find it to be completely disingenuous. The final passage illustrates this well (emphasis mine):

There is much that is good and important in the APA guidelines. The authors stress the importance of fathers and present dozens of statistics that belie the idea of “male privilege.” So why did they bury their message in distracting passages about “Eurocentric masculine ideals of restrictive emotionality?” Here is my best guess: In our current male-averse environment, the only way to help men and boys is to pay homage to the gender dogmas—then quietly insert some sound and critical advice and hope no one notices. Even the authors themselves.

My mind is exploding with counter examples, but I find this no different than how Hillary Clinton described women as the prime victims of war.

The only way to help someone is to perpetuate discriminatory and prejudicial rhetoric against them? Is that what the Civil Rights movement did? Is that what Feminism did? Is that what any of the myriad of Social Justice evangelists do?

What I effectively hear her saying is that, "oh, they meant well, so let's just focus on the good lessons". And by lessons, I mean things that you can derive by having empathy for others as well as common sense.

I'm far too seasoned to be fed such propaganda masquerading under the guise of "help".

The purpose of adding a spoonful of sugar to poison is to make the toxin more palatable—the goal is to injure or kill. Likewise, adding fundamental truths and small accolades into a dogmatic document is so that you would accept it easier.

How Ms. Sommers doesn't see this makes me question her intent and I'm reminded of this entry criticizing Sommers. At the time, the post was largely ignored, but after reading her response to the APA, I can understand that critique better now—especially that she is in favor of restoring the plantation.

There is more hidden wisdom: “Psychologists are encouraged to advocate for public policy that supports and enhances teenage boys’ career prospects.”

Yep, that policy is known as MGTOW, and the further we get away from the shackles of society and it's attempted gas lighting of us based on our biological traits, the better.
