Part 1:

The study - read it. It's amazing, lot's of interesting stuff.

A group of baboons starts eating from hotel's garbage cans. Alphas guard their "food" source from betas. A disease strikes and wipes out almost 50% of males, including the aggressive alphas. Following this, the levels of conflict and stress among the group lowers significantly and visibly changes the social interactions in the group. This behaviour transfers on the next generations.

Part 2:

As outlined here - https://goo.gl/V0lYl4 - the "permeating BP" (that leads to becoming beta, as BP doesn't promote alpha traits) it is an organic process in a civilization that grows more sophisticated. A process to move away from violence as a tool (less need and less solutions offered) to "civilized" solutions (that enables moving the resources from conflict towards other goals - generally structural, top-down organized, science-technology driven). This has been happening for thousands of years, but as sophistication grows - so does the speed of the process (feminism took centuries to develop, PC took decades, SJW - years).

Since there is less biological need for alphas, they are naturally less common. If you've been at the field long enough, you can clearly see this happening. It's unplanned, unintended consequence of lack of permanent conflict (and our striving to avoid it) and abundance of resources.

This is highly visible in modern times (perhaps as far as 300 years back, when we killed eachother less in the name of imaginary entities and more in the name of real and desirable resources). The more peaceful the environment is, the more organized, the more interconnected and sophisticated the society becomes. We become less alpha and more beta b/c there is no significant, permanent threat that would force us to cultivate the alpha traits.

Men in the West are not gearing and exercising for war, they are busy creating value and resources, building stable, more interconnected society. We are used to security, to comfort, it's ingrained in us.

On the other hand look at Middle East/Muslims. They have been at war with almost everyone else and themselves (for many reasons) for last century (most likely longer https://goo.gl/oEvcIy). They are used to to violence. They are undoubtedly less organized and sophisticated as culture, but what they lack there - they make up with their expansionist policy/culture/religion that is geared towards conflict. They "practice" aggression and are accustomed to being on the giving end receiving end of it. This, coupled with relative poverty in the region, creates a powerful motivator for actions that are at the core - alpha. Unapologetic, shameless grab at what they need, want or desire while being confident in their aggressive style.

They would not survive without higher aggressiveness (be it physical one or simple decision-risk-taking) - they don't have to choose between alpha and beta traits. We do.

Part 3:

We, males, are the prime movers of civilization but as the sophistication grows, this changes from "alpha males" to just "males". Your alpha traits are not needed, your logical goal-oriented mind is.

It's not the "number of males" that changes behaviour, it's the "number of alpha males" that influences social interactions the most. This does correlate with the current state of affairs (pun intended). The lack of aggressive males facilitated social change into less violent culture. The more docile we are, the more docile we become.

This is where the choice comes in. We, humans, differ from animals in that we can make a choice not based on external influence only but on internal process of intellectual analysis. The monkeys didn't chose to be more docile.

That choice must be cultivated outside the "inner game". It must be exhibited for others to model it, if we want to change the current culture into something that not only will "tolerate" non-docile males in the future, but more importantly - allows them to thrive.

TL/DR:

Picture worth a thousand words:

https://goo.gl/9HAcqk

If civilization growth has a price, we pay it in alphas and alpha traits.

A choice CAN be made to retain the "alphas" in society without sacrificing the growth.

That choice can be ONLY made unilaterally - by us - for the majority of BP and betas - we are a natural threat.
