I'm wondering if I should just say fuck it, and try to close every first date with a kiss?

Don't try to kiss at the end of the date, if you fail you have no way to come back and it will be awkward.

Really realized that my sticking points are, I have no idea when I'm getting the signal to go with for the k-close or when to do it.

Get her comfortable with you "invading" her space. During the date escalate physically until it's natural for you two to be at 0-distance. Once she accepts you in her space, you can pretty much go for the kiss whenever you want.

My two most recent kisses the first date have been through escalation, until with an excuse (e.g. to lead her, to "protect" her, any bullshit really) I grab her hand. Once I stopped out of nothing, I pulled her to me and since she did no resistance, I just kissed her. The second time we were walking, I stopped, turned her to me and just went for the kiss.

I recently started pulling instead of going myself. Before I used to turn silent, stare look her intensely and kiss.

It sounds like you're more awkward than you think you are. Whatever it is you're talking about with girls, however it is you walk or talk or carry yourself, it's not exciting the girls and making them eager for your touch. So when you do reach over to touch them, it feels forced and unnatural. They stiffly sit there and let you, but don't ease into your touch or respond with their bodies in a way that lets you know it's okay and makes it feel natural.

You're not getting your signals right.

And you should be kissing at about the midpoint of the date, not as some grand finale at the end. It should just be some natural thing that happens as a smooth and seamless extension from the escalating touching you've been doing all night, while she hangs on your every word and action.

If you're getting dates back to back, then you've got the approach and the generation of initial interest down okay. You need to learn how to turn that good five minute impression you made to get a girl out into how you are all the time.

If you took the second girl to an art show, meaning you have asked her out and she agreed to it, then that's already a very strong IOI. But I agree that it's better not to try hard to kiss at the end of the date, if you haven't properly escalated before. Would make all look very strange and puts high pressure on both of you. It's better to arrange a second date and make your moves then. Not kissing or not really escalating at the first date is perfectly ok, it only becomes awkward after the second or third date.

You fell into her frame.

You should provide some fun topics/activities specifically to avoid falling into heavy, unproductive and dangerous stuff like exes or politics.

Also, kisses aren't a goalpost to reach at the end of the date, but natural progress of escalation taking place and there is no real set time to kiss, you go for it when all the kino has taken sufficient effect so to speak.

Get used to it. You should go for f-close on 2nd date tho. Do NOT k-close on first date

In my opinion art museums are pretty meh for a first date. Ive been to the same one 4 or 5 times all with different chicks and it kind of feels flat. Thats even with me knowing some 'tricks' like what can cause alarms to go off without actually being a problem and making the girl point close at something and make her touch stuff that is 'do not touch'.

More on to your problem. Anytime you transition a place you should go for the kiss. Rarely matters how soon as long as you havent blown yourself out already.
