OKcupid did a study (it's since been taken down by OKcupid but has been posted here many times before). There have been several others done using Tinder, etc.

These are the results of the 'study' which was to have female users rate male users and vice versa. Males rated females in a normal curve, half of women were above average with a wide distribution - some women were rated 10/10 for instance - and half of women below. Women, however, rated 80% of men to be below average. This means below a 5/10, and 0% of men were rated a 10/10 with only 20% of men rated between a 6 and a 9.

My reinterpretation of this is that 80/20 actually becomes something like 97/3.

Out of that 20% it actually goes something like this:

SMV 6 - 11%,

SMV 7 - 6%,

SMV 8 - 2%,

SMV 9 - 1%.

SMV 10 - 0%

And of course SMV 5 and below make up the remaining 80%.

I'm arguing that it isn't the "top 20%" of men that are sought as high priority, but that a male MUST be in that 20% demographic to just be above average, if even only marginally. The original interpretation of this was: 8-10 = 20%, and 7 and below = 80%, when in reality it's: 8-9 = 3% (0% for 10), and 7 and below = 97%
