Our Open Invitation to Mods: Join Our Life Raft

Reddit View
October 9, 2018

I want to announce as we come closer to opening the archive forums on Forums.Red to new posts that we have the technology present to easily migrate an entire subreddit to a new site without losing content and while preserving reddit usernames as you migrate.

I know we are not the only ones on the chopping block, I believe there are other subreddits here who fear they may not have much time left.

Because of this, I am offering to help archive and give a backup plan on Forums.Red to other controversial subreddits. Please contact me if you are a moderator of a subreddit and you are interested.

I really hope this crazy banning spree on a whole number of popular platforms will results in more alternatives springing up. Like a really decent substitute for YouTube, for example.

[–]Red-Lantern80 points81 points  (7 children) | Copy

People don't like having a bunch of different sites and logins like the old days.

Reddit was a good proof of concept to a bunch of different communities all in one site and username with no email sign up.

The smartphone casuality has brought more people to the internet and internet communities which brings the same busybody thought police and concern trolls.

People see profit in catering to those fools that are easily parted with their money and freedom.

Remember not having your real identity tied to online accounts and freedom of speech?

I am too damn young to feel this fucking old.

[–]yuletide201823 points24 points  (3 children) | Copy

Sad, but true. Most of my circle don't even see the danger of being stripped of their freedoms online. Like "nobody's interested in my life, anyway, so lay off your tinfoil hat, schizo". To that, I can't even come up with a proper reply.

[–]Red-Lantern25 points26 points  (2 children) | Copy

Best reply is, Yet. What if credit score starts using online posts in their ratings or insurance.

Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell is coming and we're being conditioned to accept it.

I've always disliked the growing surveillance state but I'm finding myself supporting it more in the past ten years.

False accusations of all kinds are becoming rampant. Police brutality. Common assaults and vandalism. This is bullshit.

GoPro Snapbacks and Fitted hats are going to be super popular.

[–]yungassed2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy

They already tried to do that with google glasses and the snapchat one. The world wasn't ready... yet...

[–]justanotherguy7312 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

Because google glass was shit. Once they manage to make it indistinguishable from regular glasses and comfortable to use it will sell like bread.

I'm in my mid-thirties. I remember when the online stance on censorship was "The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it". The Net was the "free" world besides the real world, where ideas, culture and arguments roamed wild. Today, online censorship is demanded, celebrated as the cure against evil. I feal real goddamn old.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children) | Copy

I am too damn young to feel this fucking old.

My sentiments exactly.

[–]Lib3rtarianSocialist6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy

Hopefully. There already is bitchute and steemit. And Gab.

[–]NiceTryDisaster4 points5 points  (1 child) | Copy

Check out YouTube vanced

[–]yuletide20180 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Wow, thanks for the pointer. Seems to be cool.

[–]Endorsed Contributorsadomasochrist1 point2 points  (4 children) | Copy

Short of P2P technology making this possible, this will never happen at scale, long term. Youtube was a public view of the economics of serving media content and monetizing it.

It just took Google a decade to understand what the television industry already knew. That you must serve advertiser friendly content, and cultivate those relationships in order to survive.

Any "alt" platform at this point must be subsidized by someone with deep pockets that is willing to burn that cash ala Breitbart and Stormfront. Not that Stormfront has "deep pockets" but it is financed directly from white nationalists, there is no viable monetization angle for non-advertiser friendly controversial platforms.

You might be able to slide a TRP variant through, but then do you stop at the white nationalists? What about the jailbait line walkers? Anti military? Homophobes?

Who is going to advertise on your platform when your brand would be aligned with these groups?

[–]Incel98762 points3 points  (2 children) | Copy

Homophobes? Who is going to advertise on your platform when your brand would be aligned with these groups?

"Homophobe" is the language of the enemy, and using it is accepting their frame, that labels anyone who doesn't eagerly embrace and celebrate sodomy as suffering from a mental illness, the irrational fear of sodomy; as opposed to the rational disdain for what was correctly seen as a mental illness by medical/psych industry mere decades ago. Gender vs. sex is a huge trap as well.

[–]Zeparic2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

Fucking girls in the ass and getting blowjobs was considered a mental illness? Or does that definition only cover for homosexuals?

[–]Endorsed Contributorsadomasochrist0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I get that. I'm just speaking as a layperson, not someone overly concerned with aligning myself to any side here. More or less, you need income to support this stuff long term.

I don't see anyone, ever, replacing YouTube with a platform that is friendly to content that isn't aligned with advertiser interests.

The way that someone like Nike views the situation, is that if a Nike ad runs before a video arguing that someone "supports gay people, but rejects gay marriage" etc, then pro-gay groups start to paint Nike as "anti gay" etc.

Even in this very reply we can see how language is weaponized. We're on the same side, and now we're already having a discussion to clarify which side who is on.

Now imagine Gladis Jane Normal, how much thought is she going to give headlines that say "Nike jumps on anti gay marriage train, keeps advertisements up?"

That's all I'm getting at.

That being said, I think your reply is valuable and true.

[–]TrueFacets0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I understood what you mean, that's probably true almost anywhere which means it's never gonna be easy, almost impossible to make a platform of "real" discussion accessible for a very big number of people.

A platform for a big number of people needs infrastructure which has a cost. That cost needs to be paid. Since the platform does not create anything you can sell, your only revenue comes from advertising and this means you need to censor the "unacceptable" content to make money. And then you're not a forum of open discussion anymore.

Looks like a big, almost universal problem. Thank you for this insight.

[–]Winterknight824751250 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Like a really decent substitute for YouTube,

[–]ParanoidKasparov[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

All have been either quarantined or banned because these subs oppose feminist ideology.

[–]Denver_Luv319 points20 points  (7 children) | Copy

All have been either quarantined or banned because these subs oppose feminist ideology.

This is why the mods should have been encouraging regular posters to start their own blogs, which are easily found by search engines and not easily attacked by Reddit admins, instead of banning most posters who did.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 6 points7 points  (2 children) | Copy

Not only have we been encouraging starting your own blog, we built a platform to host your blog for free (if you didn't want to use one of the millions of options out there).

then they'd be scattered all over the internet... difficult to discover.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child) | Copy

And would lack comments since almost no one bothers to comment on a blog. Aside the good posts, comments are the essence of this sub and where I've found most gems, also proving myself wrong about something after reading someone else's pov.

[–]An_All-Beef_Engineer7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy

that top comment on a post man... instant executive summary

[–]gELSK1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

[–]DeadliftRx8 points9 points  (5 children) | Copy

I have not seen the Quarantined tag on PussyPass yet.

[–]StrongAttitude6 points7 points  (4 children) | Copy

They may have un-quarantined it. Last time I check it was exactly like Theredpill Sub.

Some other red pill related subs got quarantined and they (admins) even insert an image of a fat guy holding "i'm not afraid of expressing my gender identity" sign that follows you every where within the sub.

[–]jordanbadland0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Where can I see this? What sub is it?

[–]Vithonil0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

would you mind linking to that sub? I can't believe that, to be honest.

[–]StrongAttitude1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

I don't remember which sub it was, I unsubscribed it due to the image was very disturbing to me, but I believed it was "AganistGayMarriage" sub, though i don't see that image anymore.

Other subs got quarantined includes:

[–]Gawernator7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy

I don’t think those are quarantined, I have the first two open with no warning labels.

How about a new reddit style site (or browser add on), where it's a confederation of different websites, where each site is sort of a 'sub' which has been forced out of reddit by its admins.

Think about it.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy

Yes, I agree. It's something I've tossed around a bit.

Needs to be easy to deploy- like a wordpress install.

[–]jordanbadland4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

I was thinking about something like this and considered it my great idea of a "new internet"

Then I found out something like this exists but it's largely pro-feminist, SUPER pro-LGBT (not talking about "I don't mind lgbt people" I'm talking about safe spaces), etc. Sure you can avoid those spaces but they are being promoted there, making it harder to find the good stuff. Plus, to be frank, I won't give my "business" to places that espouse and promote that bullshit.

I'm drawing a firm line there.

[–]WhiteTrashJesus1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

reddit used to be open source so correct me if im wrong but someone could copy and paste the code from an older version of reddit and make a new one relatively easily. not sure if thats what they did that this thread is referring to but call it altred or something

[–]Programmer_Trainee0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

This seems like a great idea...

[–]5Imperator_Red9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy

If you can't beat them... go around them.

[–]1BoogersAreTasty7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy

Years ago, self-righteous ideologues burned books in their attempt to cleanse the world of incorrect ideologies.

Banning is the new burning.

[–]1empatheticapathetic13 points14 points  (4 children) | Copy

PussyPass & PPdenied

JordanPeterson (lolllz)

But perhaps once it's up and running there could be separate sections for fitness advice, mindfulness discussion etc, but that's probably quite a while in the future.

[–]jordanbadland4 points5 points  (2 children) | Copy

Not the Peterson sub. It's filled with these faggot-ass "skeptics" who fucked up in the first place with their complacent lukewarm "smart than thou" ideology

[–]1empatheticapathetic0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

Hence the ‘lol’ afterwards...

[–]YasserZe[🍰] 7 points8 points  (2 children) | Copy

What about the appeal ?

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 17 points18 points  (1 child) | Copy

Waiting to hear from admin.

[–]Red-Lantern12 points13 points  (7 children) | Copy

forgot about linking internally.

Really cool of you to offer a lifeboat.

Subs that probably should sign up.

[–]1Your_Coke_Dealer11 points12 points  (3 children) | Copy

I doubt The_Donald is getting canned. The admins hate them, but the mods work to keep the place from getting actually shitty or breaking rules. Besides, even Spez knows that if you delete the containment zone, it’s residents scatter everywhere with a grudge

[–]Red-Lantern7 points8 points  (2 children) | Copy

Does that say something about here? Who will 2X and such ree about without the Redpill scapegoat.

Every banwave it's at the top if the request list. With the election coming up there's bound to be fuckery afoot.

I actually found this sub because of one of the front page warnings about the Red Pill being the boogeyman and comments were mocking this sub with statements that made sense.

It think the title was 'It works but at what cost?'

[–]1Your_Coke_Dealer4 points5 points  (1 child) | Copy

It think the title was 'It works but at what cost?'

I vaguely remember that. I honestly think it was a dog whistle post; the bluepilled moralfags read it at face value, and those who were willing to read about the philosophy headed over, read the sidebar, and gave it a try.

But anyway, T_D and TRP aren’t really related philosophically. T_D is full of tradcons and often absent of critical thinking, though it entertains me and provides an interesting political forum of conservative proclivities. TRP is amoral (which makes tradcons angry), yet pisses off the same lot who hate Trump. Sure they’d try and link the two, but thanks to cooperative but aggressive mod teams, both stay in their own lane. And besides, as I said, we all know that if you ban T_D, the subscribers will ensure the rest of Reddit gets shitted up for months

[–]Red-Lantern2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

True indeed. I was just referring to the potential backlash as a result of banning. Seems like TRP would just go quietly to the new site. They don't fear we'd make a fuss because of the cost/benefit.

Positive though is that the collective rejoicing of the perpetually triggered would potentially bring over curious readers.

// , I just checked out that sub, and maaan, that's some creepy stuff.

Interesting, but creepy. You can almost smell the faint whiff of burned pages in some of the posts that seem less about the "Debate" than the "Fascism".

"And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood . . . And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female." - Genesis 6:13-19

As a nod to privacy, we've removed the email address requirement (at least for now). Though understand you may lose access to your account if you don't set one and forget your password.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

[–]adminsaregayniggers1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

nice thought but all the best subreddits are gone already

[–]pohlrich1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

[–]Mysterious_Thing0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

[–]temp1temp10 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Have teh MRA subreddit reached out?
