I just moved to LA from NYC, where I've been for the past 10 years. I loved NYC. For men with their shit together there is no reason to settle down. Beautiful, fit, intelligent women are in abundance there and hookup culture is just how it goes there, and the women accept this fact.

LA confuses the hell out of me. First of all, the attractive LA woman seems to be almost a myth. Online, among the most attractive there's too much bad plastic surgery, bad dye jobs, tacky clothing, trashy tats. However, most women I see around here are frumpy, plain Jane types. On online dating sites I've never seen so many obese women in my life as I'm seeing in LA. I'm not sure what I expected but it wasn't this.

Apparently because the male to female ratio is thrown off here, even the fat, frumpy women are picky as fuck. I've had to lower my standards here so far. I could easily pull 8-9s in NYC on a regular basis, my last girlfriend was a runway model - above my league lookswise, if I'm to be honest. Here in LA, I can't seem to get above a 5-6. Maybe I don't understand the culture here? I almost feel like I'm going through some sort of culture shock. An LA 9 is a NYC 6.

I'm Senior Partner at the top marketing firm in my niche, make 6 figures, 6'2", over 40 yrs old, full head of hair, in shape. I'm willing to look inward if there's something wrong with that picture but this place is so different than I expected. Can anyone familiar with the LA landscape give me the rundown? Thanks.

First off, making 6 figures in LA isn't shit. Second of all, unless your high up in the entertainment industry, you ain't shit. NYC is far better in terms of nightlife and women for single guys. Your social status is what matters in LA. Seriously, you could be a doctor in LA and you're a fucking nobody.

Here is the problem with "LA Women" - most of them are seeking careers in acting or modeling and they get hit on so much by desperate broke douchebag actors, agents, and producers that they shut down any guy that isnt famous, willing to advance their careers, or have shit tons of cash so they refuse to talk to any regular old Joe all together. The only reason I got laid quite frequently is because I worked in bars and clubs so my female coworkers and bar regulars were usually horny. I slept with an actress or model only a handful of times. They are all looking for the next best thing and guess what? You ain't it. Do you have a Lambo or a huge house in the Hollywood Hills? Probably not.

Dan Bilzerian is the king of LA and he basically said because of his money and notoriety is why he gets laid all the time and why chicks are all over him. That's it, no magic. Thats the angle.

For example - I fucked a Ukrainian model one night up in the valley and after she saw the car I drove, she never spoke to me again. Women are shallow and cruel in LA unless you have something to offer them, then the moment you don't, you're history.

At the time (2014) I was in a Mercury Mountaineer I packed up after college. At that point, it was a serviceable beater. I drove her home the next day from my apartment in Sherman Oaks to her place in WeHo and it was just an awkward silence. I knew within the first 15 minutes of being in LA that unless you drove a Mercedes, Range Rover, BMW, etc, you were going to be looked down upon by girls.

Just the nature of a vapid materialistic city.

Thanks, that's an awesome map. I recommend that others tinker with the age ranges to see that virtually every city favors women in dating within our preferred age range, but of course NY >> LA. For example, between the map's default range of ages 18-64, LA has 17 unmatched men per 1000 people and NY has 24 unmatched women per 1000 people. However at the age range of 18-44, LA has 61 unmatched men and NY has only 27 unmatched men.

Question, would you say most of the attractive women are concentrated in the entertainment industry? I'm trying to figure out if my type even exists in LA as it does in NYC. My type is educated, petite (no boob jobs or big fake asses), elegant, sharp style and works in a creative or design field. Think Natalie Portman or Sophia Amoruso physically. Beautiful, but toned down and a little understated. These women are in abundance in NYC. Do women like this exist in LA in any relevant numbers?

Dude there is nothing wrong with you at all. It sounds like you're a successful handsome businessman who enjoys the finer things in life like every man on this board but you're a round peg in a square hole coming from NYC to LA.

The most attractive women in LA is all perspective based, my taste are probably a lot different than yours. I bartended with a lot of tattoo/peircing girls with huge tits that bragged about sucking dick and how kinky they were. I always seemed to work with these chicks that had zero shame. I didnt mind it at all because I didn't have to try and since I have a beard and tattoos that helped my cause with these damaged crazy women. I'm not the tall Chad Thundercock type at all and rarely ever fucked the tall blonde types. My advice is only subjective to my own experiences but in your case I'll give it a shot:

If you're looking for a petite educated type that vibes with your NYC business motif then my best guess would be to spend time around Westwood (by UCLA campus) Barneys Beanary (there are multiple locations in LA) so go to the Westwood one, Sepis, Roccos, Mom's Bar, the Glendon, and my favorite was Q's but its a pool hall/billiards place loaded with Nurses, educated tech types, and reasonable women without blonde hair and fake tits that look like they were designed in a lab by Hugh Hefner. The reason I reccomend this area is the proximity to UCLA plus its a great neighborhood. I hope the helps.

Downtown LA is so hit or miss and it seemed to evolve every three to six months. I have no idea if its still open but every St. Patties Day we would go to a bar called Seven Grand (its a bourbon and whiskey bar with amazing women) parking is a bitch but Uber down and experience an old fashioned there. Try the Edison too. Just stay out of Hollywood, too many tourists and jabronie dudes.

I don't what part of Hollywood you were in, but well over 75% of the girls I encountered or worked with were either working as or aspiring to be models, actresses, singers, dancers, set directors, make up girls, doing Youtube channels and podcasts. Probably cause you worked in the service industry. LA is big and full of different tribes. The women you describe exist but there are plenty of chicks working real jobs that aren't complete nut-jobs.

I think the biggest problem with LA is that there are more men then women and the men are typically better looking in comparison. Your physical SMV only goes so far there so you gotta have something else going for you if you want to pull quality women.

It can be a tough city no doubt. But there are still loads of women.

Orange County native here, I agree and disagree. The area is nice and clean and the women are smokin; however, from my experience a good portion of the women are also pretty boring and materialistic. That's not to say there aren't cool chicks - I've met a ton of them, but a good percentage are hallow and boring because they're attractive and they know it and because daddy spoiled them growing up. True story, I lived in SD for a year and my buddy was up in LA. Everyone there was incredibly fake and pretentious, to the point where it was so obvious it was considered normative. People chasing the acting dragon, wanna be this, doing drugs, way too old for the lifestyle but just out there because fuck daddy and his money. SD was very chill, I lived in a quieter neighborhood away from the beach bros, and had a great time - no problem pulling from the local bars. Good people, mostly transplants but the 100 mile difference was noticeable. And yeah you’re going to find more tattoos but I have no problem with that. Really miss that place, it was perfect.

NYC is the best city for dating in the US. Hottest women, models, chicks dress well, stay fit and take care of themselves.

LA's alright, you're just spoiled from NYC. You'll never get an atmosphere like that again because it's unique.

LA is probably the second-best compared to NYC. SF women suck- mostly fat and lazy, don't put in effort and bitchy. Chicago girls can be hot and family oriented but they all try to settle down by the time they hit 25 so there's less of a pool unless you go for divorcees. Denver chicks are okay but very crunchy.

You're just in a lower tier city for dating than NYC, nowhere else like that exists unless you leave US.

You need to do it the LA way. Use your marketing firm to launch promotional campaigns that require casting and promoting models. Hold a casting audition at your office. You will have a line of about 50 of the hottest girls you've seen since moving there running outside your office. You're an executive right? Put a job out for an assistant, same deal. Get the cute young assistant first to be there to help with interviews.

I lived in LA for a year and the best decision I made thereafter was getting out of there. Ratios are bad, inundated with losers that are truly not your “competition” but clog your drain of prospects, overpopulation, dirty, truly non-assimilated culture, and some of the worst traffic you’ll experience. Making friends there can be extremely difficult as well. Idk what you're talking about with "no beautiful women." I travel a good bit and I have not been to NYC but LA stood out head and shoulders above every single other city I have been to. But I will say: the dudes there stood out as well. I was staying in AirBnBs and one of my hosts was the definition of a Chad. Got to know him a bit: self-earned a 6 figure salary, 25 years old, moved from Europe himself to pursue entertainment in LA, and most importantly he was as close to a 10 as I've seen from a dude irl. 6'2", jacked, six pack, no homo but still the best male face I've ever seen.

And I overheard him talking to his friend/roommate that "it had been a while since he'd been laid." He had social skills too. And that was the day that I realized my 5'9" ass would quickly become a permanent virgin if I moved to LA. Competition there is unreal.

(Note: on the flip side, a mid-40s guy I stayed with pulled an absolute dime while I was with him too. So I guess mileage varies)

I sublet in a few neighborhoods before settling down in Silver Lake but I'm open to moving to a different part of town. Before, I was in Echo Park, West Hollywood (big mistake), and Downtown. I worked in Hollywood forever and got tired of it so I would mosey on over to Hermosa to party on my days off which was more my crowd. Day parties on the weekend there were insane. There is a bar called "American Junkie", go on a Saturday night in July and it's game over.

Yeah I think that was the most confusing part about it to me. I'm used to NYC where all you need to do is sit down literally ANYWHERE in Manhattan and you're bombarded with people. People approach each other all the time everywhere because there's so many of us. Even for shy people it's hard not to be constantly presented with opportunities to meet people. Here it's just..... a ghost town. If you aren't plugged into a network already, they're not gonna come find you. Plus, the bars closing at 130 is a real killer for nightlife overall. A friend told me that the real nightlife is through private clubs and private house parties but again, you need to already be plugged into a network for that. I've been too spoiled for the past 10 years and I guess I forgot how to go out and really socialize because I never had to work too hard for it before.

Get out of LA, run don’t walk. You’re in the center of Hollywood, looks and money are currency, it’s why hot girls and rich men get easy access to the best clubs, the rest - don’t. It’s Instagram culture amplified. Also - don’t you notice how women (even hot women) are covered in tats? It’s insane, I think the women there are truly confused because the media presence there is so insane. LA seems to be a community of walled gardens, and if you’re not rich (LA rich) then you won’t be allowed to play.

If you must stay in LA - do you have to commute or work from home? Since LA is a city of cities, there are good patches (but far from beach) to choose from - the further our the better, but commuting kills the soul. Try to get outside more when you can, join up with some hiking groups to meet people if you can, networking events etc. The problem with LA is after work people just don’t want to be driving all over the city to meet up so you need to find the right area to live. West LA is where singles are, West Hollywood for the 20s crowd (and models) but I’m sure you know this already. In all honestly if you aren’t a millionaire seriously consider moving, the traffic, cost of living, crime and bad dating scene isn’t worth. Most people I know plan their exit after they arrive, and more people are leaving LA than moving there. It’s just not worth it.

I used to live in NYC and NYC does have more attractive women than LA but only because NYC is a larger city and a larger single female to single male ratio. LA has more attractive women based on per capita population imo. Don't even start with an "LA 9 is a NYC 6" , come on bruh. I get your frustration but let's be realistic here. Makes me wonder where you are going to meet girls.

Anyways, the Hollywood culture permeates throughout southern California to an extent with the epicenter being in West LA. The further away from West LA, the less you will be in the "scene", so to speak. Which is what I advise for someone not in the entertainment industry, LA is a wide and diverse landscape. Something that you are probably having trouble with is the culture here, as you know its much different than NYC. It could be anything from your humor/personality to the laidback lifestyle here. I have met several native New Yorkers who have relocated to LA only to move back because all said they just couldn't adjust to the culture here.

You never said how physicaly attractive you were, the culture is much more image conscious here then NYC. You can be tall, make decent coin, be firm partner and all this will get you a lot in NYC, here in LA with all that, it may mean not as much especially if trying to date much younger if you are not physically attractive.

LA is one of the best cities in the world for day gaming. There is so much hot ass EVERYWHERE. On the westside it is literally walking on every street.

Ethnically, LA is extremely diverse. White people are a minority. There are significant hispanic and asian populations here with very attractive women if thats what youre into. Most attractive white women are here to work the entertainment industry.

I recommend hitting up girls at coffee shops, grocery stores, city centers, shopping malls, and other public areas during the day. This county has more people than most states. You know what they say: women weed and weather.
