Summary: What is the obsession on TRP with working hard?

Disclaimer: This rant is meant for corporate type jobs. Of course if you own your own business, working hard makes sense as you rake in the profits and you probably also like doing said work anyway.

Body

It's like "wow I'm proud of myself becasue I did 20 hrs overtime this week while all the women went home early. Need to pat myself on the back. I'm better than them.".

No dude, you are the loser and they are the winners.

At the same level, they will get the same wage as you. maybe over time you get couple of irrelevant raises more than them but nothing putting you from middle-class to rich and sure less than the % of additional work you put in. But you know who profits? Right, the top management and shareholders and the chick that fucks her boss and gets the promotion instead of you.

Instead of busting your ass for others to profit, lean the fuck back and do as little as you can get away. Do that work for the top guys. Getting raises and promotions has mostly to do with politics and not your performance. Over performing can actually be a hindrance as it makes you harder to replace. Use the spare time for yourself. Gym, hobby, new hobbies, meditation, family, friends, plates or preparing for founding your own company.

These activities will actually increase the value of your life.

Afterthoughts

Going corporate route is for sure an option and I'm not telling you not to do this but do it wisely. It's easier to slack off in bigger companies than small ones. Here bigger companies usually have lower work hours, better benefits, some cases home office. Not speaking from experience but going corporate is probably best idea if you want to have kids as you will have more spare time than as an entrepreneur.

All this assumes you actually have skill and work in an area that needs skill. If you are just a paper pusher at an insurance, bank,... where they measure you by amount of papers pushed, your out of luck...unless you figure out a way to push these paper automatically.

Efficiency. Always to the most efficient work first. Efficient is usually easy work, impressive and for higher-ups. The complicated stuff for your co-worker? Lowest priority. You have to work and we will take all the credit.
