The manosphere has a lot of people whining about SMV inflation in women caused by social media in the last decade, but social media is absolutely not the first case of a massive inflation in SMV of people. If you think about it, each and every item in the typical morning prep toolkit probably represented a MASSIVE inflation in SMV in the period shortly following their invention. Soap, running water, shampoo, toothpaste, body oils, hair oils, perfumes and full body clothing. Those items and their effects were all once the preserve of the genetic 1% or people in strategic locations.

And when you think about it further, this inflation will only continue because most of the things that give genuine SMV boosts to the masses almost always represent billion dollar business opportunities and open up billion dollar supply chains. Only way around this is for governments to start restricting freedoms on SMV-inflating industries, which has barely happened so far (only case I can remember is skin-lightening creams being banned in many countries, though the SMV boost from skin-lightening is highly debatable).

Given all this, it's probably just better for people to keep up with SMV inflation or just remove themselves from the marketplace altogether if they can't.
