Source: Men Leave: Separation And Divorce Far More Common When The Wife Is The Patient

My understanding of the theory of female hypergamous sexual behavior: to secure survival and comfort for her and her children, a woman will seek the most able, attractive partner to provide for them that she can find. If her partner fails to do this, she will leave for the next best alternative.

The study states that men are more likely to divorce their sick wives, and women are more likely to stay with their sick husbands. If women were truly more opportunistic and hypergamous that men, why would they be much more likely to stay with a partner that can’t provide for them financially, emotionally, and sexually?

Even though there’s a TON of evidence against a strong presence of hypergamy in our modern era, for this discussion, let’s just assume that it’s a valid theory and talk solely about how this evidence could possibly (or not possibly) fit into it.
