Differential selection pressures during our evolution. Biological adaptations have trade-offs. When you maximize one area of fitness it’s at a detriment to another area of fitness. Tall men tend to be stronger and make better hunters and protectors, but they also consume more to sustain it. Men don’t choose women for their potential to be hunters or protectors, they choose them for their potential to make good mothers. There’s no motherly advantage to being tall for a woman, and the extra resources she’d consume would be a huge disadvantage, so there’s selection pressure for women to be smaller.

I am a tiny woman (152cm) and I’ve been like that. As a teen I would say mean things about shorter men and I would never date guys shorter than 180cm. Until I met a man just a little taller than me who swept me off my feet and I realised how dumb and superficial the whole tall thing was.

I like masculine men and I always associated height with masculinity which is total bs. Short men can be just as masculine. Just like tall men can be more feminine. Now I just date whoever I like. lol.

As a tall woman I've personally intervened several times to stop men from sexually harassing short women the men saw as helpless and vulnerable. They're seen as easy targets by predators. I'm very aware that at my height I'm intimidating.

Short women are treated like children in professional settings, they can't grow a beard to activate a subconscious recognition of adulthood like short men can.

There are worse things than a few disparaging comments by people who are just jerks. Yes, there are many stuck up jerks of both gender, if it hadn't been your height they would have found something else to be rude about if you're not up to their modern Adonis stndards.

Incidentally I don't think it's about genes, really. I think it's that women want to be protected because we're painfully aware we're physically weaker, and taller men seem more capable of that. Men don't generally look to women for protection so perceived vulnerability isn't an issue.

Before you ask, I did not have a dating height requirement, I was perfectly willing to date shorter men in my dating years.

The number of times i've turned up to a date and the first thing the guy says is 'you are really tall' before even hello, and kept mentioning my height during the date is too many times. And i am 5'10". There was a girl who was 6'1" who I worked with for a summer job during university and the amount of jokes made behind her back calling her hot but a 'giantess' and laughing how if they slept with her she would crush them in bed was a lot. However this is also pointless, as males have no need to, as their biological drive is to reproduce as much as possible. In the past, the chance of surviving pregnancy and a child surviving were low. It was a pretty low chance to survive at all. Only the strongest survived. So it makes sense that we fuck everything and anything.

I think tall women are a better comparison, and would be more realistic as well. Because most men prefer short women, as short women are more feminine and cute, so there’s no reason why they would ever get treated like short men who are the farthest thing from preferred by most women. Tall women on the other hand aren’t preferred, so they would be the most realistic target of being treated the same.

Bullshit. My mom was short and she rejected a guy because he was 6ft4 and too muscular and she married my dad who’s 5ft9, ( she’s 5ft0). 2 of my aunts are also taller than their husbands. From my experience short women don’t care about a man being above 6 foot tall. They just want him to be taller than them. Most of the women that want a guy who’s 6ft and above at the point of rejecting any man below that tend to be on the lower side. I have a cousin who’s 5ft3 and he got married the seconde where he wanted to settle down.

Its one of the reasons I just never get jealous of supermodels because something about being tall makes their bodies less attractive to me. Women have social advantages for being taller than average too. They tend to make more money, for example.

And while an average 5-6” height difference between the sexes better reflects women’s stated preferences (about 8” taller), men typically show a preference for less height difference (about 3”).

IMO this is possibly why women wear heels and why they’re considered sexy. People think height doesn’t matter and it’s about long legs, but the heels are also making her appear closer to the preferred height of the man that she would find desirable.

I'm 5'11 and I date women in that height range and I never hear a thing. Also, only one woman has told me I was too short, and she was 6' tall. I have dated women from 5'11-6' all through my life. Couple years ago, I had dinner with some friends and their 5'11 knockout 15 year old daughter spent the whole meal rubbing her leg against my leg and her arm against my arm lol. I didn't stop her but I didn't take it any further either.

I can't speak to how shorter me than I am being treated.

The reason that women are attracted to tall men is not because they want tall children. If a man is tall it just generally indicates that he is stronger, that's the science behind it. So it just doesn't work the same way with women as they are not the ones who are biologically supposed to protect.

Personally tho I don't think women are attracted to tall men. Rather, they are attracted to men who are taller than them, so that you actually look like the one who protects and not her. And there are short women out there, so you really shouldn't blame your height if you have bad luck with girls.

I would think the analogy to women who are that adamant about having a really tall man is men who only want petite, tiny women. I've known guys like that. It probably has to do with the power dynamic and sexual opportunities for men. The smaller a woman is relative to him, the more a man may perceive himself to be in "power" in the relationship and therefore perceives himself to have more sexual opportunities with her, which, evolutionarily, would produce more children.

I really think that this is why men are not usually as attracted to tall women. One has to remember that the idea of women as people with full equality with men is a very new concept evolutionarily and did not exist throughout most of human history, and therefore that's why I think that men are not instinctively attracted to the "strongest, tallest" women, even though these women would likely produce the fittest offspring.

On the other hand, certain female physical attributes are associated with the healthiness of a child, which is why men prefer certain secondary sexual attributes in women, so it's not like men sexually prefer the weakest woman who they can find.

Cause being cute, petite and small are kind of associated with feminine quality. While being tall and wide, and big are more masculine traits. Being a tall female is like being a guy with tits. You have a characteristic on your body that isn't really going to help you pull mates. It may or may not hurt you, but it won't help either.

I mean yeah, no shit. Treating short dudes as less than is pretty reprehensible, and honestly pretty stupid to boot. No one likes to be treated like less than, especially in an age where height isn't nearly as important as it used to be.

But, I do want to note that short women deal with a specific brand of shit too, it just doesn't directly deal with their love lives necessarily. They tend to be viewed as 'childish' and have issues asserting their authority (if they have legitimate authority) and are often dismissed as a knee-jerk response.

I'm not a short woman, but the women on my mom's side of the family are. My mom is the tallest and barely hits past five foot, I can rest my chin on my aunt's head easily, and I can easily tuck my grandmother under my arm and walk away with her like she was a rolled up sleeping bag. For reference, I'm also not particularly tall, I'm 5'8". They're all just really short compared to me/most women. Yet there's not the same amount as outrage there, either, it's usually just brushed off as a joke.

Well first off, men are generally left to fend for themselves in terms of their shortcomings. It doesn’t matter if it’s height or anything else, society naturally has less empathy for men. We have largely controlled the means of production and governance since the beginning of society, so the source of that dynamic is obvious. I’m not arguing one way or another for that, being a man of any stature has its definitive social advantages and you can’t expect anything to be without its cons. So yes, if short women got the same treatment as short men, it would be considered a bigger deal.

As for the evolutionary side of men still liking short women, and women not liking short men, it stems from the discrepancies in selective reproduction amongst males and females. Women can only give birth once per year while men can technically impregnate thousands of women during that time frame. The general caveman idea is that it doesn’t really matter if this one offspring is short, you are still furthering your genetic line by impregnating this short woman. You can still go make genetically better babies regardless if you do that or not, so you do it to cover your DNA’s bases. It’s why high value men regularly have sex with women below their considered value, from a subconscious perspective they are simply diversifying their genetic portfolio. Females have less conceptual bullets to fire, if they are going to mate and produce offspring, they must be more selective in terms of the genes they attach themselves to, hence why they are naturally inclined to be more sexually selective in terms of looks, height, physical ability, intelligence, etc. in comparison to men with women.
