I don't think it is an unspoken fact that depression is much worse for men.. There have been pointless facebook events for a while now where people post pointless pictures for suicide awareness like it will actually have an effect.

The problem lies in the fact that women generally have a big support network of friends and people to help them through everything.

While men both don't have this kind of support and are generally ashamed of talking about that sort of thing. Maybe because we all know talking about it is pointless.

I also believe depression isn't the same for women as it is for men for the most part. Their idea of depression might just mean needing to bitch/vent about something to someone every once in a while. I really don't like generalizing things like that though as everything is subjective for every individual and depression/suicide is nothing to put blanket statements over.
