Sick of women assuming I’m a feminist just because I’m a woman.

I’m so sick of women talking to me about ridiculous feminism stuff, and continuously asking me “don’t you agree?” And I just have to vigorously nod and hold in my screams of pain. This third wave feminism crap makes me want to shoot myself, but if I posted this anywhere other than reddit, I would have no friends left in real life or online, and my father would disown me (he is a huge feminist).

I know what you mean. Sometimes it feels to me like I am questioning religious beliefs when I challenge some aspect of modern-day feminism with a feminist.

Yup. can be all for women's rights and not be a feminist. But for some reason they reiterate that I AM one.

It's borderline cultish.

I love that “if you’re for equality you ARE a feminist, whether you want to be or not”

Yeah my go-to response for that is,

"Are you against murder?" "Yeah of course" "Then congratulations you're a Muslim (or a Hindu depending on who I'm talking to)"

Then they start back tracking.

You’d love my family, my mom and aunt hate feminists for making women look like weak whiny asses. Feel sorry for you, but I’d probably do the same as you tbh

Yeah I know what you mean. Its so degrading and patronising to women. Women can be sexist and lack empathy for the suffering of people different than them just like as well as any man.

shoeOnHead takes this issue on a few times. (youtube)

I think its stupid, just because someone is a women doesnt mean shes a feminist. A lot of women actually disagree with feminism and we welcome those women on this subreddit

Ask them what they think about Sweden’s feminist politics = highest rape rate in the EU 😂.

They’d just deny it! There’s a magical thing I’ve noticed about a lot of American feminists where things that don’t happen in the US don’t happen at all. Apparently the US is the epitome of violence against women to a lot of these people. I don’t get it.

You don’t need those people in your life - they blackmail you into silence with the threat of abandoning you from their life. It’s a leftist tactic.

Im in a point in my life where my friends will bore the hell out of me with their left wing feminist hysterics and I have to look at them and say “listen. I’m not a feminist. If you’re my friend we won’t talk about this shit any more.” Most of em are taken aback but tend to stick around any way because I got the jokes.

That shit is infuriating. My brother's ex-girlfriend called me a hypocrite for saying I'm against feminism. I really almost want to make a shirt that reads "internalized misogynist", but I know some ditz would think I'm being serious. Just because am woman doesn't mean am feminist.

I feel your pain, I want to rebut some of the misleading claims (a few claims seem legit/accurate, of which I'm obviously supportive), and sometimes general hatred/attempts to blanket shame men that flood my social media, but honestly I don't have the energy for it, and don't want to stoke the fire. Unfortunately silence isn't really a solution either. It's a tough one.
