Why does everyone seem to think witch hunts exclusively targeted women? Men were killed during the Salem Witch Trials too...because four young women (likely from familial pressure) accused them and a lot of women of committing witchcraft. While there were a lot of women who died, that doesn’t mean men didn’t also die.

Also, I’m pretty sure other people got lynched back in the day, including Italians and Irishmen, whom many consider white today (though they weren’t on the same terms as WASPs). Besides, we know Emmet Till’s death was as a result of a false accusation of sexual harassment by a white woman, and yet people are going to act like similar patterns placed on people aren’t deserving of comparison cause of their identity? While the motivation was racism in that instance, lots of people have different reasons for false accusations, but the majority of them boil down to they want to make their victim suffer.

The majority of lynching victims were whites, lynched for rustling, and the majority of those executed for witchcraft were men, so the church could steal their land.

I know that “lynch mob” isn’t used in a literal sense but it seems odd that they are basically calling cultural appropriation into fucking lynching. Am I reading too much into that?
