Add 20 more pounds to the lady in the meme and then it would be a perfect representation of reality.

I've yet to find another subreddit as heavily moderated and quick at deleting posts and comments they don't agree with as r/feminism.

It's always disappointing when I'm like oh nice a legitimate complaint that I can research to see where all this vitriol against feminists is coming from...except it's always based on a lie. You've completely misrepresented the comment you're referring to. The only weird thing that's said in that comment is that the commenter believes women are more intelligent due to social conditioning and not genetics, and I've never heard that there's a measurable intelligence gap between genders. They don't link that to suicide, though, they link it to seeking treatment. And this is just one comment in a thread of harmless comments.

I've really tried with you all, but this subreddit's arguments are so consistently baseless that I'd be willing to bet a great deal it can't come up with one legitimate issue with mainstream feminist philosophy that bears scrutiny.

Until you have rid your movement of the crazy radfems or at the very LEAST, openly disavowed them unilaterally, feminism will never gain traction with the majority of people. Clean your house before you criticize someone elses. There is a lot of toxic behavior that is being supported and even encouraged in your movement. I'm willing to wager that you don't see that as a "legitimate" issue though...

[–]BlatantNapping0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I've never seen any documented cases of a feminist group supporting toxic behavior. Unless you count TERFs, but no one does.

That's like saying your philosophy should be grouped with incels', as they're all anti-feminists. I really don't think I've seen a realistic argument against feminism aside from "some woman was mean."

If you consider yourself an anti feminist, what do you think is wrong, philosophically, with advocating for women's right to be viewed as equal in society and under the law?

[–]VestigialHead0 points1 point  (4 children) | Copy

So you do not see any issue with people asking questions or providing another point of view in r/feminism and being banned for life as a legitimate issue?

That makes the entire sub a sounding board without any balance at all.

I get that mods should ban people that are being offensive or just trolling. But thousands of people get banned from the sub just for asking why someone thinks the point they made is valid or providing a legitimate alternative viewpoint. Even when backed up with legitimate sources.

[–]BlatantNapping0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy

I don't see an issue with it. The sub you're looking for is askfeminists. Feminism is intended for people who contribute from a feminist perspective. Last I checked the sidebar has a lot of resources, including a link to askfeminists, for anyone who has questions about feminism.

And you say "legitimate alternative viewpoint," but I think we both know that 99.9% of that is 1) "why do you guys want to kill all men" (eyeroll) or 2) "why do you believe [common concept that can be googled to find tons of studies and opinion pieces] when [opposing viewpoint that has been addressed and debunked a lot, also available on Google].

As a feminist online if Im having a day where I just want to be in a supportive environment and learn new things from other feminists (that of course I'll then research on my own) I don't want to argue for the 100th time with someone who doesn't think the wage gap exists or who believes men are treated unfairly in custody decisions, etc. When you add that to the trolls (which is most of what I see in this sub relative to the main feminism sub) it's just exhausting.

[–]VestigialHead0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy

Yes see that is exactly the problem. You do not want to have your confirmation bias challenged. You want to sit in a little bubble where everyone agrees with your beliefs.

The wage gap is a perfect example. There is no literature on the web that proves the wage gap exists. It has been shown to explicitly NOT exist yet because you do not want to hear that and have one of your core beliefs challenged you will claim it has already been debunked.

Feminists think that because many men earn a higher total in a year they must be getting paid more. This is not correct - you determine if wages are equal by hourly earnings - not totals. If women work the same hours they get the same pay. But many desire to work less hours so less total. But try to tell this to any feminist and they scream and cry.

Most of the posts people have made and have been banned for where simply asking for evidence of some point or saying Hmm that does not sound correct what about this. Instead of trying to prove their points r/feminists simply freaks out and bans people.

[–]BlatantNapping0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

I think you're intentionally misreading what I said. There is a place and time for everything. Everyone has their community and there are places that are inclusive and places that are exclusive. the main sub is for people with a feminist viewpoint. Askfeminists is inclusive for good faith questions from other viewpoints.

The wage gap is a perfect example, because you can easily google "feminist stance on the wage gap" to see the arguments, and the rebuttals, and every side of the debate. From my point of view, on that front, you are the one that doesn't want to hear things that conflict with your own bias. So we could shout that at each other ad nauseum or we could be respectful and productive.

Asking something you consider to be a "gotcha" question at the wrong feminist sub when you could easily google it to find the feminist stance on it and then "wondering" why you receive a hostile response seems like a waste of your time. Feminists certainly see it as a waste of their time, because the discussion -- like the one you want to have about the wage gap -- has been had over and over and over again. I can't speak for everyone but I'd certainly like to have a more interesting discussion than one I could transcribe before it even happens.

[–]VestigialHead0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Oh I understand very well that the feminists have a different view or stance on multiple talking points. But just because they have a differing point of view does not make them correct. That is what discussion and debating is for - to try to clarify points and to determine who IS correct. Just because some website may claim there is a wage gap or some gender studies professor shows some stats that claim it is true does not make it so. I know the wage gap argument has been had over and over. The majority of times I have seen it play out the feminist loses the argument. So why do they continue to make the same mistake again and again?

The problem is that when ANYONE brings up a version or a question that disagrees even slightly with the view on r/feminism they simply ban them.

They do not let discourse or discussion happen. There is only one reason for that sort of exclusivity. They know there arguments for many of their views are flimsy at best. So instead of risking being revealed as having a confirmation bias they simply prevent the debate from occurring.

I am not saying that every point spoken about in r/feminism is wrong or has no merit. But there is a core set of beliefs that are provable wrong and these are the extreme views that create bigoted man hating third wave feminists.

If r/feminism is to ever care about equality then they need to hear both sides of any argument and make rational decisions. Instead of just feeding of the other members negativity and bias.

Yea thats how ive got banned from this subreddit. Pathetic.

Got banned for life because I simply asked: can you please name me a right that a man has that a women doesn’t, the fact that they didn’t respond and banned me for life proves my point sooo much and makes them look like clowns

The kill all men nails it.

[–]UpperClassStout0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

There's an irony to an idea that absolutely feels seething hatred towards men, but the entire idea is built on the lack of attention by men.

The hatred leads men to avoid them, feeding further into the hatred because men won't give them any attention.

Nobody wants a 375 pound whore with bright blue hair and armpit hair that thinks something like "freebleeding" is somehow equality.

No, its not men "repressing" you or whatever other victimization bullshit you claim. It's you being completely repulsive to literally everyone else outside of your echo chamber.

[–]CommitSudokuPerverts-1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy

Females shouldn't be allowed to do anything without the consent of a man.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
