Being mysterious can work better for a sub-par looking man if you play your cards.

You have to give off the vibe that you know you are the shit.

Attractive guys can definitely open with less care. Your opening game has to be better the uglier you are, but that's not necessarily bad. With woman, it's about social status, above and beyond all else. Looks and wealth are distant second/thirds.
