Who are your favourite and least favourite characters? Elizabeth is a fantastic character because she shows how to be a classy woman while having a strong personality at the same time.
What social conventions of the time do you think were beneficial to the happiness of the people?

The emphasis on good social behaviour. For example, there's a lot of comment on certain people being 'well-bred', meaning they're good at conversation, polite, etc.

Also, the generations seemed to mingle a lot more than they do now. Twenty-year-olds made house visits to forty-year-olds, parents and children went to dances together etc. This is not always ideal, but I do think it encourages maturity.

Who are your favourite and least favourite characters?

Most: Elizabeth, of course, and Darcy. Nothing to see here.
Least favourite: Miss Bingley. Breeding does not make up for terrible character.

Who are your favourite and least favourite couples?

Most: Again, Lizzie and Darcy. They challenge each other but have such a mutual respect. Also, Bingley and Jane: they're not my sort of people, but they suit each other so well.
Least: Charlotte Lucas and Mr Collins - Charlotte tells him what to do, and he is odious, and holds other women (even non-romantically) above his wife. Lydia and Wickham, though I enjoy it in a vindictive way. They remind me of couples who marry because of an accidental pregnancy, and resent each other forever.

What social conventions of the time do you think were beneficial to the happiness of the people?

I do wish formal dances were still A Thing in most of the world. What a lovely way to meet people and have an activity to do together!

Which social conventions are you most glad to not deal with in modern life?

I'm very glad that if 15-yo-me ran away, my family would not make me marry the man to protect my honor.

What sort of alpha/beta traits do you see in the main male characters?

This is my favourite question!

Darcy is, of course, pretty alpha in most ways. He 'holds frame' and commands attention. The way he takes charge in the situation with Lydia and Wickham (without making a big deal or making anyone uncomfortable) is excellent. But he maintains enough beta traits to be an acceptable marriage partner - he is not too stubborn to change his mind, he's willing to learn and grow, and he cares deeply for his family and friends.
Bingley is rich and desirable, but also ineffectual and gentle and mostly beta. As I noted above, he's not my sort of man (he'd drive me mad) but, for someone who doesn't want a dominant partner, he's very sweet and I'm sure would make a lovely husband.
Wickham is just alpha-ing all over the place. Somehow this doesn't end well for him. Huh.
Mr Bennet: this one's an interesting one. I get the sense that he once was more in control of his life than he now is - somehow, his oldest two children have grown up with the hallmarks of good parenting, but by the time the next few have rolled around, it seems like he's given up and just lets Mrs Bennet do whatever she wants. He still loves her, though - maybe it's the wife goggles.
Mr Collins: beta af, even when he's crowing at the Bennets over Lydia's disgrace.

Which female characters do you find to be the best RPW role models?

Elizabeth and Jane both have lots of those RMV traits that I admire.
Jane can STFU like nobody's business (although, her gentility gives at times the impression of indifference, which leads to heartbreak. Maybe stfu slightly less, Jane).
Elizabeth keeps her eye on the social situation and, sometimes, deftly changes the topic when something uncomfortable comes up.
Mrs Gardiner (Elizabeth's Aunt): bet you didn't remember her, huh. I love Mrs Gardiner, and here's why:
She owns her place in society, she doesn't show off or try to seem more well-off and connected than she is.
She is perspicacious, but doesn't need to make a point - she absolutely knows what's going on with Lizzy and Darcy, but leaves it to her niece to tell her when she's ready, rather than needling her.
She's at ease talking to people, and smooths over the conversation when it's uncomfortable.
