Love yourself for your own sake. That is self esteem.

Do not love yourself as compared to others, that is narcissism.

In my mind, self-esteem is knowing you are capable. Capable of achieving anything you are willing to put your mind and time into.

Ego is the voice telling you that are you the best at what you do. That you have no further improvements to make.

Basically, always be learning. Stay a student forever.

I don't know much about the ego, but a great book to build self-esteem is "The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem." There are exercises to practice at the end of each chapter.

Self esteem is believing you can do it , Ego is believing that ONLY you can do it . The former is about embracing situations as they come and enjoying handling and enduring them ... the latter creates a false pretense so that when inevitably you fuck up ( as we all do we're human) the damage cuts much deeper than it was ever supposed.

Go into every situation believing you can and will make the best of it , don't Assume that just because you are in the situation it will be good .

Self esteem is rooted in presence. You have high self esteem because you realise the value of your being regardless of external things.

Ego is very reliant on performance. So if you ask a girl out (and you are running on ego) who you think you can easily get and she says no, your ego is going to take a hit.

Ego cannot thrive in presence. Ego only thrives in your absence. When you are not truly conscious of the current moment.
