Perhaps not in the literal sense, as in hypergamy being about intersexual relations, but in the behavior that it manifests within men. See the example below.

First job I had out of college paid $40k a year which I was pretty happy about. 2 years later I got a promotion up to $60k and I was over the fucking moon about that. I've earned a promotion/pay raise since then as well. Last week I got a job offer for $60k. It took me 2 seconds to delete that email with a look of scorn and disgust. "How dare they insult me like that? Don't they realize I'm worth more?"

And it made me realize how an offer that once was one of the happiest moments of my life, now results in feelings of contempt, which reminded me of how women act in regards to men.

I was effectively alpha-widowed by the higher paying job. I'd just as easily branch swing to an even better one, but I would also begrudgingly settle for the lower paying one if my skills in the marketplace would no longer warrant higher pay.

The common thread to me is what each gender uses to measure their self worth by. Women judge themselves by the quality of the man they're able to snag, and men judge themselves by their job, really just an abstraction for their ability to obtain resources.

Not much of a question, just curious if other men have noticed/felt this happening to them.

Edit: I also noticed a similarity in how women will take on lower paying jobs if they get other benefits out of them (easier workload, friendlier coworkers, etc.), just as men will take on women who are lower than them in SMV if the woman provides additional benefits like pleasant company, cooking, good with kids, etc.
