Just fired from all female firm

Reddit View
May 22, 2018

The past 3 months I've been working at an all female firm. There were roughly 12 employees and I was the only male employee.

I was a fresh grad before beginning working here and in my 3 months here I didn't receive a minute of training, guidance, evaluation, etc. When I would ask a question about my job it would be met with the response "figure it out yourself". I basically had to learn everything on my own. I've been spinning my wheels every minute since I got here but still getting by and doing good work. Then today I was let go out of the blue.

I'm honestly just shocked at the whole experience. It makes me never want to work again at a firm that isn't populated by men. There was never a feeling of safety or camaraderie. I felt like a tribe of 1 alone in the wilderness.

Was it right before your probation was supposed to end?

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (5 children) | Copy

Yup, right before almost like it was planned since day 1.

[–]Fun2badult11 points12 points  (4 children) | Copy

Once you’re off probation they need cause to terminate you I believe.

[–]Terdmuffin7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy

Not in America. Though some places may vary. Most places here have "at will employment" which means they can fire you for any reason except certain protected things like sex, race, religion etc. And they can fire you with no warning. On the flipside you can also quit for any reason with no warning. Obviously there are exceptions with unions and stuff like that.

[–]The__Tren__Train1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

lol no... that would be nice tho

[–]stylerTyler0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

In europe they never need a cause but once you’re off probation they need to pay you your current salary multiplied by the number of years you worked for them as an exit reward or something. If you resign you get nothing.

[–]ayylma0880 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Of course they need a cause wth are you talking about? On an additional note, makes me happy to be working in Germany. There is practically no chance you can get fired here unless your screwed up big time

[–]1atticusfinch197376 points77 points  (2 children) | Copy

You're better off not working there and now you know why women run companies usually aren't anywhere close to as successful as male run ones.

[–]flowrider007 points8 points  (1 child) | Copy

As someone who did a stint at such a company,I agree.

Nearly all female managers I've worked under are not effective leaders.

[–]disgruntledearthling0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Most of the women managers I've known in hitech were psychopathic monsters. Funny, they were actually nice before the power got to them

[–]W_O_M_B_A_T23 points24 points  (0 children) | Copy

Show us how to do some of those Matrix-style moves, you fucking bullet dodger.

Might could talk to a lawyer, seems like there's a good case for sexual discrimination. Probably not worth the time and energy though.

They'll be out of business soon enough with a hiring record like that. Wouldn't surprise me if there's embezzlement going on.

[–]casemodz6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy

Well the east answer is...what did you expect?

Another answer is that they just sucked, period.

Why we're you the only man there?

Did you they seem to use you for examples, like, do you think they gained anything from you during that 3 months? Sounds like they are sexist and used you for some insight on how successful people do things (men) without actually going out and making it know that they are seeking men's help...much like women will do with a lot of other things...basically beat around the bush, lie to themselves in that weird way...

Hope this makes sense. Anyone please feel free to correct me or add to what I said.

[–]360_no_scope_upvote12 points13 points  (0 children) | Copy

Should've been planning your exit as soon as you realized it was all females.

[–]7Fig14 points15 points  (4 children) | Copy

Beaver dens are always a shit show. You are better off. Now go find a male boss to work with.

[–]Senior EndorsedVasiliyZaitzev9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy

But avoid Betafags and White Knights.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy

Ha! BEAVER DENS?! I'm using that in the future and probably not gonna give you credit.

[–]menial_optimist1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

He should be working to be his own boss, not work for somebody else until he is 60.

[–]noPTSDformePlease4 points5 points  (4 children) | Copy

Sue for sexual discrimination

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy

I don't think it would hold up since there's another lowley female employee there they treat like garbage (even worse than me and I was the newest).

[–]Fun2badult0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy

And they might all stick together and say you weren’t a good worker because they don’t want to get fired for supporting you

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

Yup, couldn't imagine a single soul there going to bat for me.

I really have no move other than find another job.

[–]Fun2badult1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Just take it as experience, dust it off your shoulder and go find a job where they actually appreciate you working there

[–]Gozsayin2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

Dude u should go back and smash all the ones you u could before. Did this at all my jobs, along the best way to do it is to put in a 2 week notice and then the gloves come off

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

that really sucks. in hindsight I believe you will see that they did you a favor get the hell out of there.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy

Fucking horrible, mate.......but do tell why you chose to work there in the first place.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

I was currently living in a very small town very little options.

Moving back home (bigger city) tomorrow though so new opportunities.

[–]Forcetobereckonedwit1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

You dodged a speeding tampon, and learned a valuable lesson.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Is there a question here?

[–]David_Seymore231 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

I work at an all female firm and have been in all female (low men count) jobs since I entered the work force.

I'll be honest with you that if you don't have above average social skills and a decent frame, you will get run over and made into the firm bitch or seen as a threat.

In order to thrive in that environment, you have to constantly be playing people chess and make yourself seen as a point of validation --but not at the top of the hierarchy.

Just like in sports, the gym, school, anything in life really, men will always come out on top if they push hard enough. A new man with potential to outshine lazy women is the worst thing they could dream of. This is amplified as women gossip, back stab, and love to play power games . . . unlike men, who are results orientated.

If they cannot control you, they will get rid of you.

It's that simple.

The way to play a female firm is to validate women who are at the top of the hierarchy, so that when they gossip about you, they're framing you as a nice guy or someone that's going to be great at the job. This trickles down the bitch list, and the ones at the bottom might even try to fuck you --don't do it.

When engaging with top hierarchy women, do cold reads on them, talk about how experienced they are, make them feel good about their place in the firm, and make sure that your compliments and reads are genuine. You are kissing ass but you aren't coming off as a kiss ass. They are just facts out loud, and the fact that you notice them makes you a source of validation.

That's your momentary safety net.

Also, keep in mind that you should never say more than you have to. If given the option between talking about yourself and working, always work instead.

When conversation comes up, your role is to be a positive addition --above average social skills will mean you're good at making people laugh. Keep the conversation light and on them, and you'll notice that over time they will divulge their true feelings about the job to you. Women love to complain more than anything else, maybe even more than they do backstabbing each other.

This is a good place to be.

Listen to how lazy they are, reflect back at them and empathize with their situation, but never ever talk bad about anyone else at the firm. Sometimes what looks like a deep and meaningful discussion is actually her trying to break your frame so she can spread dirt about you to other people at the firm.

You know that old lady that brings you ginger cakes on Monday? She'll fuck you over just as fast as sweet-tits Robin. Don't break frame.

What is your frame?

Your frame is always as the kind friendly father figure who is good to everyone. Even if you are younger then them or don't really give a shit. You rarely ever complain, and if you ever do, it's about the same things they complain about and neutral to the job (rapport).

You are someone that everyone can rely on and just a genuine guy who is there to do his job --nothing more than that.

Image is key.

The day you take sides with any one women, you will have started the slow process of the entire firm getting rid of you.

Sounds stupid? It is.

But on a biological level a man who picks sides in a fight between women is as low on the sexual hierarchy as they are. They can't respect you if you are on their level. With women, sexuality and identity are not separate.

In a way, you lucked out by getting let go, and while it does suck you need to take your next workplace into consideration.

Working with an all women team is not always hell, but most of the time it is. This may not be for you, and the challenge probably isn't worth it if you have options when it comes to jobs.

It goes without saying that you shouldn't note them down as a referee. Best of luck in the next job

[–]Cloudsurf891 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Is there a question..?

What to take from it: You've gone in green with no experience and paid your rent for a while, you've opened your eyes to what it's like being in the work place, you've stood on your own feet and essentially trained yourself up, you can now go to your next job and smash it

[–]PatnarDannesman1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

That's pretty typical of female management. They're insecure and have no idea how to lead or manage.

[–]3chazthundergut9 points10 points  (3 children) | Copy

Stop whining and go find yourself a job.

And stop using your gender as an excuse you sound like a chick.

Make yourself undeniable

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children) | Copy

My work in the latter half of my time there was pretty much seamless.

I did everything I was assigned within the timeline I was given.

[–]THE_Aft_io9_Giz-2 points-1 points  (1 child) | Copy

how you get the results is just as important as getting the results...quit bitching and use this as a learning experience. what's your question anyways?? sounds like a bunch of fucking whining statements. that's life. suck it up, learn, and move on.

[–]RedPilledRoaster1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Ok? Move on. No use wasting time ruminating about things you can’t change.

[–]BurnieSlander0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Why the fuck did you even take a job at an all female firm

[–]DiggerClam0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Of course they let you go, it was an ALL FEMALE FIRM. You were cramping their style dude.

[–]cl35370 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Yes I love it, the women made you there little bitch for 3 months, gave you no training, and then let you go with no consequences.

Alpha Women.

[–]Str8_Pillin0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

3 months / 90 days, this is fairly typical when it comes to temp agencies and internships. After this they could either spend more money giving you employer-paid insurance, retirement, etc. Or let you go and get 3 months of slave labor out of someone else.

With graduations happening all over they probably have the next person all lined up.

[–]The__Tren__Train0 points1 point  (10 children) | Copy

if you ever find yourself in this situation again, pretend to be gay..

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (6 children) | Copy

I have a deep voice, muscle, facial hair, etc. it really wouldn't work for me.

I tried being more beta but that didn't really help much either in the end I settled on strong silent-type alpha (pretty much my baseline personality) and then I got fired.

[–]5JS1XBG64A 1 points1 points [recovered] | Copy

You don't have to be the stereotype to make them think you're gay. Most gay dudes I know you would never have a fuckin clue about. Just casually mention a boyfriend in conversation or something.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Just casually mention a boyfriend in conversation or something.

I would fucking crack up

[–]Thunderfin0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

Idk too many gay guys, but can't you usually tell by their fashion, voice, mannerisms, etc.? The ones I do know were easily recognizable as being gay. Same goes for lesbians (with the addition of coloured hair).

[–]The__Tren__Train1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

I have a deep voice, muscle, facial hair

lol.. not all gays are the lispy, limp-wristed type.

[–]Morphs_0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Can you tell more about the reason they gave to fire you? What was the atmosphere like?

Sounds like you assumed that good work is rewarded on the workfloor, but social connections are actually more important.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy

No. I did this it was the worst.

[–]The__Tren__Train0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

how? it puts you in a protected class

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I was absolutely protected yes. it was in an all women’s prison by the way.

but the amount of effort that I had to put into the fake persona was wearing. I didn’t act flamboyant but I had to come up with the backstory and be careful what I shared and girls wanted to do girl talk with me and it was wearing.

[–]TheTrenTrannyTrain0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Reminds me of that all female software company where the CEO was bitching how they couldn't make money.

Don't ever work for a woman.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
