"Woke" is a broader term of which feminism is a subcategory. It's a square rectangle thing. All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.

Incorrect, but that is what feminists would have you believe. "Woke" is usually understood to include feminism, "anti-racism" (as in, "racism, but the good kind, we promise") q**** theory, and sometimes socialism.

I made it clear that for all I knew, this was completely "woke." However, that still doesn't sufficiently relate it to feminism, unless this subreddit is now also dedicated to critiquing Kendi and Black Hitler.

Also, I think it should be noted that as someone who doesn't read the comics but did read OP's post, I still had no idea whether or not making Superman bisexual was another case of "woke cringe" or not. Someone else who does read the comics has responded to me here going into some detail explaining why this move by DC is an issue. That was a more helpful response than anything provided by OP, because OP didn't make an argument. Just an assertion. This is why I said that OP's post wasn't very helpful.

I know anti-SJWs like to assume that powerful people use social media to try to get a sense of what the public likes in order to pander to them and make some money, but I don't think that's entirely true. I think it's often the other way around, I think powerful people are more interested in controlling what the public thinks rather than listening to us. Maybe at one point they genuinely were looking to the public to figure out which "side" would prevail as the publicly acceptable political position, but that has long since past and we lost that one already. I don't think the elite are interested in reevaluating their position. Backpedaling now would be far too embarrassing for far too many people. The only option they have is to double down.

Antifeminism and anti-social justice was all the rage from 2015 to 2019, and while it isn't gone now, it's lost it's novelty. The response hasn't been to listen to us and recalibrate marketing strategies to pander to us, even in the areas where we were unquestionably dominant. Instead they tried to silence us and discredit us.

Maybe a leftist was able to make a tweet and catch the winds of the mainstream media, but we aren't playing by the same rules as they are. We can't throw out stupid one-liners and have the elites finish the job of taking it public. We have to actually be logical and persuasive to the general public, and "bruh stop this woke cringe" isn't either of those things.

I'm sure feminists are behind it, but I don't think feminism is. Feminism deals primarily with sex and the issues of women, not bisexuals. Intersectional feminists like to claim credit for civil rights being extended to other groups, such as racial minorities, GLB people, and trans people, but that's just an attempt by feminists to force minorities to ally with them. They say things like "some black people are women, so racial justice is a women's issue." They also say things like, "feminism has done so much for black people, how can you, a black person, be against feminism?" It's a marketing strategy by feminists that I have no interest in dignifying.

This isn't a no true scotsman. My guess is that most BLM supporters are feminists. Some won't be, but there's a significant overlap. However, when I have something to criticize about BLM, I'm not going to blame feminism for it, even though I'm sure that the individuals behind the actions I am critical are feminists. Instead, I'm going to blame BLM. I would apply the same principle here. I'm sure that someone left wing enough to sloppily force bisexual representation does happen to be a feminist, but they aren't doing this in the course of their feminist activism, they are doing it out of their interest in "LGBTQ++++" rights.

You're not into comics, so take it from somebody who has read a lot of DC over the past decade and reads almost all the main story arcs: It is very deliberate and very contrived. Of course, DC doesn't give a flying fuck about where anybody sticks their private parts, but when we see a month full of "DC Pride" comics and every advert in other comics pointing exclusively to that, DC sees 🤑🤑🤑

About the only youngster hero who isn't LGBTXYZ is Damian Wayne/Robin. I can't think of any superhero team now, that matters, that doesn't also have LGBTXYZ members. Every Wonder Woman is by default bisexual. Fair enough, that makes sense. But now (the new) Superman (who is of course intended to fully take over from his dad); Batwoman; The Question; Harley Quinn (poster child for mental illness); Poison Ivy; Pied Piper; Midnighter; Apollo; Aqualad; and Constantine has always been a bit bent, but I think it's a very deliberate attempt at offence when he's shown kissing the literal devil in a public toilet and implied to have had sex with him. There are loads of others. I have absolutely no problem with characters actually being gay or whatever, and Midnighter and Constantine are two of my absolute favourite characters, but it's no longer that this is merely a facet of the character, but it becomes the whole character. There's a new character in the latest Batman run who is quite clearly a little girl, but the writer went through pain to refer to her with non-binary pronouns ("they"/"them"). What's the need, except to draw attention to it? It doesn't have a bearing on the thread of the story. Shoehorned in.

One of my bandmates and best friends, who is gay, told me, a few years ago: "I hate being defined as 'a gay guy' because that's not who I am. It's one of many things that happen to constitute who I am, but it doesn't exclusively define me."

When the comics are written as they are, it is blindingly apparent it is being done deliberately, and to the detriment of telling good stories. That's when it's a problem, and it is.

But DC makes big bucks out of those who define themselves via identity politics, so it will not stop any time soon. If putting Pride flags all over your comics and shoehorning in homosexual activities brings you another 30% revenue, as a corporation, why would you stop?

Fair enough. But I must say, this entire discussion still seems to have nothing to do with feminism. I've certainly complained about excessive pandering to GLB and trans people, but there are better subreddits for that.

Also, your response was far more useful than OP's. If he had said exactly what you had in a more relevant subreddit, I wouldn't have criticized it, and I would happily have given an upvote.

But we all know what I'm talking about when I say that there has been a highly irritating trend lately in which a bunch of morons make low effort posts here that are completely unrelated to feminism. Sometimes it's just one woman having a public freakout, and the post will be called something like "AWALT, Stay away." Sometime it's just "Bruh stop this woke cringe" and complaints about forced bisexual representation.

I became interested in this subreddit because it used to often have well researched posts that actually dug deep into the flaws and excesses of feminism. I used to actually learn things and find new ideas here, so you can imagine why this is so frustrating. Maybe it's just a sign that antifeminism has hit the mainstream, and now it's caught the attention of lazy people who just want to make fun of "woke cringe."
