To anyone claiming that Pakistan isn't oppressive: Just read up on what the Pakistani government does to its Baloch minority. Kidnappings, raiding villages and killing innocents.
[–][deleted] 45 points46 points47 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Not to mention homosexuality is illegal there and stoning and acid attacks are quite common towards women
[–]Hannubal 20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah. Also, 75% of women in Balochistan-province are analphabetics. It's even worse in Waziristan in the Northwest, where close to all women are illiterate. That's oppression against women.

Stoning is illegal for fuck sake. It is not the 1990s or the early 2000s any more you know. Baluchistan has a complicated history and they do not like the presence of China. Hence the constant fighting and cival war between the two.
[–]dev_yo 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Homosexuality is illegal but unenforced. I know a few gay guys and they aren’t hanged or stoned. Or thrown into jail. Stoning here has never been a concept, and I have never ever heard of anyone getting stoned in Pak. Acid attacks are a big problem though you’re right on that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do you know or know of anyone who was a victim of an acid attack
[–]dev_yo 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh no not personally, it isn’t that common. It still happens but pretty rare. Haven’t heard of an acid attack in ages, but I’m sure it still happens in rural areas, just not in big cities like Karachi where I live. Honour killings are a way bigger problem than acid attacks. A few days back an honor killing happened a few blocks away from where I live. I live in Phase 3, and the killing happened in Phase 2. Stoning and punishment for homosexuality is non existent. Acid attacks are a problem but rare. Honour killings are a big problem though

Nationalist Indian media and Nationalist Indians will tell you that. Pakistan is a secular state with aspects of Muslim morality. For example, pork is banned. It isn't like the stereotypical Muslim state you imagine where women aren't allowed to drive or vote and have to wear a niqab if they don't want to be killed.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
You dumbass i have a shit tonne of pakistani friends who have lived there and despise every aspect of it. I grew up around a lot of these folks. Parts of my states are crowded with muslims. There is a heavy difference between lived experience and the bullshit you read online. Come and live here. You are a real dumbass. Are your friends from the rural areas where illegal and radical Muslim activities take place? Because that discrimination (denying females education, freedom, choice of spouse etc.) is not systematic, but cultural. It is illegal. And it is restricted to the backwards areas. There is requirement for reforms, not systemic change.
Or else please tell me how else women are systematically oppressed in Pakistan.

I thought this is common knowledge, but apparently not. These incidents and statistics should be studied differently from those in Western countries. Gendered crimes against women are more easily noticed and studied in Pakistan, but the overall rate is far, far lower than that of most Western countries. These cases are isolated incidents, not the norm.
For instance, the rape rate of Pakistan is 0.0000136 compared to the USA's 0.00021 i.e. more than 10× lesser.
Also, you didn't answer my question.

[–]carnivor_666 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What's my point? Muslims see unholy westeners as animals, just like the sheep they are so fond of fucking, so western girls are a freeforall to just rape. So fuck you and your illusion.
Rape rates has nothing to do with oppressing women, I bet you’re one of those feminists who think the USA is a rape culture
[–]ThanosFanos 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
As a muslim I will be fully honest, in some countries where they fully enforce the sharia (most countries don’t enforce the harming parts of it) yeah they are pretty oppressed (more so by the people) but anyways I am not Pakistani or female, so I don’t think I will ever fully understand the extent of it
[–]Deathbysugar2020 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I know. Pakistan is a Muslim majority, but is a secular state with with aspects of Muslim morality. They do not enforce Sharia law by default, it is limited to certain backwards areas, and even then not by the law. It isn't like the many middle Eastern countries people automatically assume when they hear "Islam state".

Where are the minorities Pakistan?
[–]Deathbysugar2020 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Hindus: 1,414,527.
Christians: 1,270,051.
Ahmadis: 125,681.
Baha'is: 33,734.
Sikhs: 6,146.
Parsis: 4,020.
Buddhists: 1,492.
Others: 66,898.
The Constitution of Pakistan, in article 25 (1), guarantees that “all citizens are equal before law and are entitled to equal protection of law.” Article 5 provides that “adequate provision shall be made for the minorities to freely profess and practice their religions and develop their cultures,” and article 33 declares that it is the state’s responsibility to discourage parochial, racial, tribal, sectarian, and provincial prejudices among citizens.
I won't claim that there is no discrimination in Pakistan. But there isn't systematic discrimination against women in Pakistan. Only cultural and isolated incidents.
[–]nublifeisbest 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I can't say much about women and won't do so as long as I don't see another article with double standards, claiming that it's one of the best places for women. But when it comes to minorities, there's no denying that they're oppressed, especially when you look at what happenned to the Hindu temple that was planned to be built in Islamabad.

Anywhere from 1.5%-%10 depending on what part of the world you live in.
[–]SolousVictor 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Did you read past the first line in either of those articles the first says that people say it's 2-10% (like you) but only if you ignore all the cases that investigation proved were false (in only 2-10% did the accuser admit she was lying) and the Wikipedia article the prevelance section disproves every word you said.
[–]PandaBoi_69 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
First off I believe it's closer to 5-7% not 2% but that's beside the point. There's a lot more cases that just didn't have any evidence for the investigation to move forward or for the case go be taken to court. About 2/3 of cases taken to court do actually find the accused guilty of rape so I don't understand what you're on about. The problem with saying only 2% of rape accusations are false is that even though the stat is true (almost) it leads people to believe that 98% or accusations aren't false. However the vast majority of them just don't have enough evidence to conclude anything and you can't jail people willy nilly just because someone accused them of rape. The same way you can't just jail someone because they were accused of murder. There's this thing called the presumption of innocence that protect innocent people from being imprisoned unfairly. I'm not sure you've heard this quote so here it is, "It's better to let a hundred guilty people go free instead of punishing one innocent person"

%1.5-10 depending on what part of the world
There's a lot more cases that just didn't have any evidence for the investigation to move forward or for the case go be taken to court
Except all the DNA evidence and piles of rape kits that never get analysed
http://www.endthebacklog.org/backlog/what-rape-kit-backlog
About 2/3 of cases taken to court do actually find the accused guilty of rape so I don't understand what you're on about.
The facts and stats disagree.
The problem with saying only 2% of rape accusations are false is that even though the stat is true (almost) it leads people to believe that 98% or accusations aren't false.
That's exactly how that works.
However the vast majority of them just don't have enough evidence to conclude anything and you can't jail people willy nilly just because someone accused them of rape.
No they just blame the victims because of how they dressed while ignoring the DNA evidence, physical trauma and rape kits.
The same way you can't just jail someone because they were accused of murder.
If they're DNA was found on the murder weapon, they were covered in the victims blood and the victim had their skin under the fingernails it's a pretty clear case.
There's this thing called the presumption of innocence that protect innocent people from being imprisoned unfairly.
So they just blame the victims instead?
I'm not sure you've heard this quote so here it is, "It's better to let a hundred guilty people go free instead of punishing one innocent person
So what you're saying is that punishing the victims is okay so the guilty people go free?

[–]Deathbysugar2020 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I checked the source you mentioned.
Sexual violence is notoriously difficult to measure, and there is no single source of data that provides a complete picture of the crime. On RAINN’s website, we have tried to select the most reliable source of statistics for each topic. The primary data source we use is the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), which is an annual study conducted by the Justice Department. To conduct NCVS, researchers interview tens of thousands of Americans each year to learn about crimes that they’ve experienced. Based on those interviews, the study provides estimates of the total number of crimes, including those that were not reported to police. While NCVS has a number of limitations (most importantly, children under age 12 are not included), overall, it is the most reliable source of crime statistics in the U.S.
including those that were not reported to police.
Which means no, they classified non-convicted people as rapists.

0/1000 of adults who rape male children with knifes see jail time. Not even the orthodox Jews who suck on the penis after cutting it. Face it, women are not oppressed. Males are made slaves the minute they leave the womb. I cannot sit here and fathom how women can claim oppression when medical frauds strapped me to a table and cut my sex organs off at birth, leaving me with a life of extreme constant pain and misery because I was assigned male.
I can't even have sex and start a family because of this. But instead I lived decades sexually frustrated with contstant discomfort in my genitals covered with scar tissue and nerve damage.
All while women get to enjoy their sexual revolution in a high tech, post industrialized world that MEN BUILT AND DIED FOR. You are a certified peice of shit and a liar like most feminists.
Hundreds of millions of males suffer this travesty around the world and conditioned to think "our penis is fine" while you pedophile apologists act as if, boys aren't getting raped on a daily basis.

[–]johnxwalker 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Lol imagine feminists are defending Pakistan as being not oppressive to women lol.
There are a lot more aspects to discrimination other than empowerment and pandering. Pakistan has to deal with problems like class and religious disputes over women's rights. Pakistan's judiciary takes elements from Islam for morality, but is largely a secular state. The oppression of women extends beyond simple systematic oppression.
Benazir was assassinated because of political tensions, not because she's a woman and everyone in Pakistan hates a woman president.
[–]Mrlovemaker 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Mhm, shore bud, you betcha! They didn't kill her because she's a woman. In fact, they abstained from killing her earlier BECAUSE she's a woman. I would venture to say, that they their love women so much that they HAD to kill 'er. Else, maybe some of their wives, and daughters, would aspire to hold positions in office. Can't just leave their adored husbands alone in their houses, can they?. What's a house without a woman's touch, eh? No, you are correct! I think, we have broken tremendous ground. In fact, Pakistan is THE unrivaled state in this aspect, they just love their women to DEATH

How are state laws burdensome?
Say you and I wished to conduct business. What place does the state have; in telling us how to conduct it? They didn't help us get started, they didn't pitch in, they didn't contribute. The only role government should serve is; 1. Maintaining the peace 2. Construction for the common good (roads) 3. Protection of its citizens, and even the extent of THAT is debatable. Though, those are the reasons why we pay taxes. Anything outside of that is asinine.
Who can decide your well being, and self interests, better than you yourself? The government? That's a laugh.
