A lot of this just isnt how it works and will get ppl hurt
[–]BruhndonDales13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
True, itd be neat but you'd have to offer people more than what they make in the private sector and they've been fucking cops long enough they had to water down requirements. That's why all this "defunding the police" nonsense is trash too. The majority of these solutions are based on feminist ideology anyway. An on sight psychologist sounds nice to everyone who isn't a psychologist getting paid 30 grand less a year and having shit thrown at him by a mental patient with no orderlies (cops) to restrain him. They clearly don't understand severe mental illness or a cops job

Sorry I thought this was a different sub lmao

I love how they keep saying that these trained people are going to put themselves into harm's way for free.
And at no point do they even realise that unarmed people without any authority walking into dangerous situations regardless of training aren't going to be walking out of those situations.
These people are genuinely stupid.
[–]NohoTwoPointOh17 points18 points19 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
But that’s exactly how they see the world. These people are the same “utilities” that helped them for the exams they didn’t study for or played white knight for them.
[–]seajayde20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If only there was a group of people who were trained for unlawful situations... Some sort of system where people who break the law were punished accordingly...Ah, I'm living in a pipe dream...

They stop and suddenly become nice to them

Do you think we should tell them there's already city employees that do all of this? They're called cops.
[–]gaori54321moonlandi-8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What does this have to do with antifeminism?
[–]LaZZeYT13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It doesn't completely, but most feminists seem to support this, and I'm guessing OP sees this sub as a potential target audience of this post.

I remember seeing that time there was this half-naked dude at the entrance to my apartment. Did I try to ‘engage’ him to de-escalate the problem? Talk to him? No, I called the cops. I don’t know if he has a gun or a knife or on some shit that makes it impossible for him to feel pain.
Honestly, I hope they do go through with the whole effort to defund the police. Nothing says “Shit, I need a man!” when you can’t call the cops to help you. Nothing will transfer power to men faster than getting rid of police departments.
And they’re idiots. Most of the money at the local level goes to the schools and not the cops, typically. If the schools suck and the taxes are high, the local cops are not to blame.

Most of these situations will only end badly without police, and the whole image is completely ignoring the fact that if police are de-funded, already high crime rates are going to skyrocket.
(the following message goes to anyone and everyone who wants to de-fund police)
Who's going to be there when you're getting mugged on the side of the street, with valuable items on your person? Who's going to be there when your place of work is being looted for all its inventory, all the while you're being held at gunpoint? Who's going to be there when your family is being raped right in front of you, and you're powerless to do anything because the home invader hogtied you when he/she got there? Who's going to be there when you have to hid in a dumpster because a group of serial killers are plaguing the streets? The answer to all of the above is no-one, because you thought it would be a good idea to rip away everything from the people who would've been there to protect you, or even make sure it would've never happened in the first place.
After all of this happens, do you feel any guilt? Any shame? D you apologize to those around you? Do you acknowledge or even own up to the fact that you, and others like you, are the reason everyone is in this mess? Do you try to fix it?
The answer to that last question is, you probably won't be able to, because you've probably lost everything , powerless to stop any of it, and no one will let your voice be heard, because no one can trust you to do anything good for the world, and no one cares anymore.
Again, this goes out to everyone who wants to de-fund the police. This is what you preach, this is what you want, this is your future if you continue to walk down the path you're going.

Why the hell are you defunding the police
[+]Zeusz13-12 points-11 points-10 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'm gonna get downvoted to hell, but if America didn't allow people to legally posess machine guns, mybe their cops wouldn't be as stressed ad trigger-happy. You know, jut a thought. Sincerely, a European from a country, where guns are pretty much forbidden, and death by police brutality is pretty fucking rare
[–]Metal_In_My_Minivan12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
American here, automatic weapons (guns that fire continuously with one trigger pull) ARE illegal. If you want one you need about $10,000, extensive background checks, about $10,000 more minimum for the firearm itself, and you'll probably wait at least a year to even look at it. Source, I sold firearms in the past.
Evil people will do evil things regardless of the weapon they choose. A knife is just as deadly as a gun. Don't look at our sensationalist news as an accurate representation of our country. There is a narrative being pushed. The VAST majority of legally obtained forearms never get pulled on a cop, or on anyone. Look up how many guns are legally purchased, cross reference that with gun related crime, and then cross reference that with how many illegally obtained guns are used to commit crimes. The overwhelming majority of guns that get pulled on cops are illegally obtained. Shocking. Criminals do criminal things like steal guns and try to shoot police officers. Don't buy into the "American cops are trigger happy" narrative. No one ever wants to look at the HUGELY OVERWHELMING uses of force in the U.S. that are justified and and do not escalate past a few bruises because methhead Joe doesn't want to go to jail for beating his wife again. The majority of arrests take place with no use of force. Seriously. Google it. Stop buying what the news is selling. Think for yourself. Look up the facts. We have gang problems and drug problems most of Europe doesn't have. More people are killed in Chicago in a few months or less than are killed by cops in a year. Here's a website for you.
https://heyjackass.com/home/ There have been 273 homicides in Chicago this year alone so far. 1388 people shot. 247 of those homicides were by gun.
If you look at how much crime is taking place in just ONE city the number of wrongful shootings by police officers that get splashed across the headlines is so small. Bad cops should be put in prison. Period. But people who just scream fuck the police are only widening the divide between communities and good cops. It's not helping anyone. Good cops are getting assaulted because people blindly follow what their news says. People are buying that all cops are out to get them and ready to shoot. It's not true at all. This narrative is hurting poor communities who need good cops to patrol heavy because they have high crime like gangs shooting at each other on a daily basis. Actual children are dying from stray gunfire in gang infested communities and no one bats an eye. Its deplorably hypocritical to never ask for justice for them. For the kids who fear drive by shootings in poor neighborhoods because their parents can't afford to move. Where are the marches for those families? Where is the outrage for them? People get mad when cops show up in poorer communities, but that's who needs them to stop bad people who are exploiting the vulnerable. Please don't take this as an attack on you, but an attack on a false narrative parroted by a media who uses your outrage to make money. Look into it for yourself. Most news is just there to enrage your sensibilities without really telling you what's going on. They care more about money that facts.
Edit: spelling

True enough, the bad news is allways up front, the good, way down. I know most firearm owners never even fire in self defence, much less at cops. But the chance is there, and you can't deny the fact that the pressure is there. If the other party hardly ever will have a gun, and the most dangeourous tool encountered is a knife, then at least the policemen will be safe outside an arms reach, and that could make all the difference. Don't get me wrong, there are places where I live, where even pistol wielding cops are afraid to go unless they have at least 10+ men, but a random traffic stop will almost never result in shooting, and thus the cops rarely use their pistols. I know the same is true for most USA cops, especially since the USA is a large place, and way less homogenous than what an outsider would see, but still, I believe that a society armed as extencively as the USA inherrently carries with it dangers, which are not necessary
