Sure it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that most, romcoms use idiotic humor, have mind numbingly boring romance, and repetitively use the same frikkin plot line.

I avoid a lot of action flicks for that exact same reason.

“Men hate romantic comedies for the same reason you hate video games with over-sexualized female characters. The men in these movies are always willing to sacrifice their careers, their dreams, even their lives, to win the lead female’s affection. Now I don’t have any empirical data to back this up, but it seems to me that romantic comedies and romance movies in general, cause women to have unrealistic expectations of men and what love should be like, and these become the expectations that men have to live up to, and it’s unfair.

Feminists like to bitch about poor representation of women in media intended for men because they promote body image issues and shit like that, and I agree to at least an extent. But it’s not any better for men when we’re expected to be Prince Charming, ready and willing to sacrifice ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally, and are called selfish for daring to have our own desires, or even misogynistic for daring to draw attention to our own problems.

These movies appeal to the female fantasy of having a knight in shining armor swear their entire existence to pleasing them, and thus reinforce these notions within their target audience of women like you that you somehow deserve and should expect to have your boyfriends and husbands give up everything that makes them who they are, and basically dehumanize themselves for your pleasure, and devote 100 percent of their time and energy to you.

The fact that some of you watching this are scoffing at what I just said only proves my point. You have fooled yourselves into thinking that I’m somehow the one who’s being selfish when I objected the notion that men should be expected to cave into all of your demands, for the sake of your perverted idealistic conception of love.

And I have no doubts that some of you will accuse me of being bitter at some ex-girlfriend for saying that, but I’m not, and I will preemptively characterize such an argument, as outcropping of the very mentality that I’m talking about. You expect all of your demands to be catered to, and any man who is unwilling or unable to cater to them must have something wrong with them. Us men are human beings with our own interests and goals, and it’s selfish for you to expect us to give all that up for you, but these movies condition you to expect exactly that.

I remember someone saying that men usually don't like romcoms, because for us, love is work.

It doesn't happen naturally, you have to work for it. To make the first step, the first kiss, etc... if you don't nothing happens and the girls moves on with her life.

So a movie depicting the female perception of live is not very alluring for men.

I think we also are told from a very young age that we don't deserve love until we have something to offer, so romcoms are... not really our thing.

Romcoms are usually made for women. It's a form of insert fantasy if anything for many women. Men on the hand have their insert fantasy movies genres, like action or war movies. Heck the only time I was interested in a Romcom was when one of my ex girlfriends chose the movie.

one of the problems with most romcons, is that generally, the man has do all the chasing, and through a series of challenges to change himself / better himself in order to 'win' the woman.

Whereas the women in those films are generally passive. Rarely do we ever see the things the other way around.

That said, i do rather enjoy some romcons. Marley and me is quite enjoyable.

Every rom-com: girl meets guy. Guy is competent in his field of work and is makes a lot of money, most of the ladies want him but somehow he is an idiot. Girl wants the guy, the guy then agrees to a few dates, falls in love and makes major changes to his personage and lifestyle to accommodate the girl. A few weak jokes later the guy makes a mistake at which point the girl leaves EVEN AFTER THE GUY MADE ALL THE CHANGES FOR HER, HAS DONE ALL THE WORK AND SHE DID FUCK ALL TO IMPROVE UPON HERSELF. Guy then makes a big gesture to win her back, she falls for it and they live happily ever after.

Lol it’s like people getting mad over how long male authors linger way too long on describing their female characters. Her E cup breasts swelled, her perfect pear shaped body moved, her smackable ass jingled like jello, I want to breed her…look at her swaying hips. Her innocence and submissiveness makes me feel like a lumberjack.

In romcoms, it’s his pecs that are protruding out of his shirt(cue horny women noises in laugh track) , that sexy beard that tickles her face, his back muscles working in missionary and chopping wood , his well-endowed peepee flapping at midnight, his stupidity , stalker-y, jealous attitude me break up with him 5 times in season 2.

To me, both are pretty cringey lol. I like my fanservice light or subtle. It’s merely a matter of taste.

It's that romcoms are fucking boring. I like to watch a complete action packed movie/series with fast pacing like Nobody and Suicide Squad (2021 not 2016) or a thriller with lot of suspense but slow pacing like Se7en, Breaking Bad and Black Bird.

He is marginally right. Most woman are not gonna find a kind, 10/10, funny, and rich guy. Kings isn’t asking for much, and they could prob someone with good humor, but those along with the 10/10 looks and being rich just hardly exist. Also most men are not romantics and would not spend multiple days planning an anniversary surprise or the likes.

I watched this Romcom with my gf, it was about a psychic girl who is literally psychic and runs a psychic reading business, you know, one of those businesses that are 100% run by scammers and charlatans IRL.

Well in this show, not a single person takes her psychic powers with a grain of skeptical salt, every character just 100% buys into her powers without evidence, as if people with actual psychic powers is the most normal thing in the world. The powers is just a way to make the main character magically right about random things, and instead of making her story more complex and even relatable by having people respond to her claims with skepticism (as they would irl), they make the story a simplistic lukewarm naive will-they-won’t-they story about a girl with literal world saving magical powers, but only uses them to give bad romantic advice to clients.

This is why I hate Romcoms. You don’t need to throw in magic powers if you are just going to tell a basic run of the mill girl meets boy story.

And frankly the women in romcoms are more fun and have a better sense of humor than most women in reality who'd throw fits over the stupid shit that dudes pull in those flicks.

It's all fake and dudes know it. It's a rare woman whom a man can pour his heart into and she -gives back- and far more common for her to act like an entitled princess who deserved it for merely existing.
