The cafe you are talking about was Handsome Her. It was located in Brunswick in Melbourne which is a pretty bohemiam suburb. Operated by a (lesbian feminist) Alexandrina O'Brien, the "man tax" was a publicity stunt which they encouraged men to pay 18% more (due to the infamous wages gap) and then that "tax" was donated to women's charities. (proof it was?)
Naturally, they had sexist rules that they saw as "natural" such as women having priority over men etc.
As you can imagine all the feminists lost their mind saying what a wonderful place it was etc etc and then when it failed, how it failed due to the patriarchy etc etc. Pretty much the standard excuse for any failed feminist endeavour (eg She-Hulk, Ghostbusters reboot etc)
The formal reason why it shut:
It insists it's not closing because of “male tears or misogynistic vitriol from men’s rights activists” or a lack of income. “We are closing down because we are young, educated and off on our next adventure,” its owners explained.

So… it wasn’t a profitable business. Got it.
[–]AndyBrown65 48 points49 points50 points 1 year ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yep!
You don't spend tens of thousand on tables, chairs, kitchen equipment, fridges, ovens etc, then after 18 months say "Hey, I'm bored, let's go on an adventure!"
[–]buntyisbest 38 points39 points40 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I mean, some feminists might do that, especially with their lack of intelligence.
[–]tzaanthor 16 points17 points18 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, I'd believe that. The idea is to stupid for them to care.

This is the funniest bit I've read in a while. It's like a defensive stubborn child. I suppose they just had a lot of disposable income and just wanted to burn it by failing a business? Hmm.
[–]Sidewinder702 19 points20 points21 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Funny how these poor oppressed women have so much disposable income.

You stupid men don't wanna pay dick taxes! You fucking misogynists!

I remember hearing they had odd rules like that. I couldn't imagine being a man waiting in that restaurant to finally get service after waiting for all the women before me get their service. Then when it's finally my turn, if a party of women walked in at that moment then suddenly I am at the back of the line again. Yea I'd definitely walk out if that happened. But then again it was also a Vegan restaurant too in Australia so perhaps the customer demand was equally low so who knows. Needless to say, it failed and rightfully so.

Lmao, I knew a café in my home town, NZ, that did this back a few years ago. They dropped it after realizing they won't making much business and upsetting the community. Honestly, I'm surprised that café is still up and running after that and still have male staff. Reason why I know this, is because my guy friend worked there... he didn't see a problem with it and believes there is a wage gap. He was shocked to find me, a woman, that disagrees with it and showed him some facts to as WHY feminists have come up with the wage gap.
[–]tzaanthor 18 points19 points20 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Also they should have called it a 'sir charge'

This business should have been shut down by the Government for misandry but of course it's not gonna happen if the system itself is misandrist and doesn't value men's feelings.
[–]Langland88 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Honestly, having the government shut it down wasn't necessary. Sure maybe we can agree that maybe that would have been a good idea but I believe it was Napoleon Bonaparte who said "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." Sure the "he" in this quote is actually a "she" in our situation, so we it was kind of better to let the business fail on it's own volition. So here we are 3 years later roasting this business for their own stupidity behind our keyboards, smart phones, or tablets while drinking our drinks of choice (preferably champagne) and getting the last laugh.
Let those ladies deny it was our "man tears" that put them out of business, as far as I'm concerned, their drowning in those tears along with their assumed debts of a failed business.

It was a disgrace that this was allowed in the first place.
Because we all know if it was the other way round, the place would have been shut down in less than half a day after opening, and the men who ran it would have had their lives ruined.

Ah, I remember this one. I remember reading the headline.
Feminist owned cafe - Me: Pff bet they don't las-
Closed after implementing 18% males tax. - Me: Sigh. What a shock. Reverse sexism doesn't accomplish anything. Way to learn by losing a business you goddamn infants.
[–]31spiders[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’m just saying for me to pay a MANDATORY 18% they would need to have some DAMN good pastry (I don’t drink coffee so they could have best coffee in the world and it wouldn’t matter to me).
[–]Aggressive_Profile23 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link
With this kinda things it’s like, men will stop coming to their store, woman who are friends with those men hearing about the fact they got taxed for being a guy, will stop coming to that store, and then woman who aren’t bottom of the barrel feminists will stop coming to that store because they know that’s wrong.

I really expected some sort of government subsidy to take effect.
Think they’re “too big to fail”?
[+]Conscious-Charity915 -2 points-1 points0 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Is this to account for men's higher wages?
This guy is closer to the story I’ll let you read there and ask him questions. (He mentions wage gap in the comment though so I’m going with yes)

So did they charge 36% for transsexual males?
9% cause they’re only half male

I just read about a guy who spent 30 minutes just waiting for the waitress to take his order. So the waitress went up to him and told him to wait because he was a cissexual white male.
[–]31spiders[S] [score hidden] 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link
WHAT THE FUCK. I probably would have waited ordered then walked out telling them I’ll be back and they can wait to give me my order cause I’m a cissexual white male.
